That kinda sounds like draft PRs. You can make all PRs drafts by default. I guess it would be cool to have a setting where only maintainers can change it to ready-for-review.

It's called a signaling game. Of course it's dumb, but how else do you measure traction besides revenue? Building good software is a small part of running a business.

A pattern I've settled into is to write code but leave a TODO for every narrow thing I want the LLM to do for me. Then just tell the agent to fix the todos. It's often faster and easier to give "instructions" this way

Back in my day, we did the learning in class, and the evaluation (homework, projects, but sometimes even exams) at home. Seems like AI just flips the script. Now, you can learn anything you want with a private tutor. The teacher can just upload the entire course material to a place where the LLM can rag over it and answer anybody's questions. Learn it on your own time. Then, use class time for evaluation. Do the "homework" in class. Take proctored tests without access to the internet, etc.

You must have a low bar for human code review. I've seen that in practice too. But I've also been on teams that took code review very seriously, and frontier AI really doesn't come close to a good human code reviewer imo

I don't get the part about Homebrew. If you're using Homebrew, it doesn't make a ton of sense to use Itch.io. Just use Homebrew. Seems like a more appropriate place to distribute a dev tool anyway. You could set up a patreon and print a link to it when appropriate. That's basically what Vim does.

I promise you there are a ton of companies desperate to hire talent right now. It's hard on both sides of the market. Lots of noise, but there is demand for this supply. Unfortunately, that means personal connections are more valuable than they used to be, just to get the ball rolling.

I don't understand how this could be the case for Cloudflare specifically. They made their name with DDoS protection and sandboxed hosting. These are exactly the products whose demand rises in lockstep with agent adoption. How could they possibly be allowing all the growth opportunity to slip past them? In times like this, with rising productivity to boot, you increase headcount, not decrease.

Somewhat by definition, AI-generated docs would only include information that could be obtained elsewhere in the codebase. That can be valuable, but far more valuable is the information you got from debugging all the failed alternative designs that were never committed, etc. Information and context that goes beyond the actual code being read.

My experience is that most people fail to capture this ultra-valuable documentation, but AI never does.

My friend at a faang was talking about the "massive overhauls to make everything ready for ai". I asked for an example. He said "basically just documenting the shit out of everything"
