One thing to consider, since this post is about Texas...visiting your neighbors with a complaint in a strong castle doctrine state can be intimidating.

>If a player was on a breakaway, I’d also try to do stuff like this (as the goalie), which of course makes opponents stay far away from you.
I played soccer as a goalie at a high level in my youth, and this was my strategy on breakaways as well, completely legal move as long as I tackled the ball and not the player. I was a very intimating and athletic goalie at 6'5" ~220. Players did not like to be near me.

>Why are these apps costing the price of a gym, with none of the access to equipment.
At least in tech, the biggest cost center is employee wages, it's possible that this is what's happening here, the cost of employees (coaches) is probably their biggest cost.

>Police is in many cases at least 30 minutes away, if not more, and have no resources to investigate the theft of 10L of milk.
Just for reference [0], NYC police's response times for "serious" and "non-critical" 911 calls are close to or over 10 minutes. Responses to "alarms" (which I assume would be things like B&E to a shop after hours) is over 30 minutes.
[0] https://www1.nyc.gov/site/911reporting/reports/end-to-end-re...

Have you considered the value that an astronaut represents? AFAIK, they are basically genetic anomalies along with extreme learned discipline and intelligence. They're like an asset. Replacement cost of an engineer in tech is estimated to something like 3x their pay, think about how much money it costs to replace an astronaut.

Is there an entity out there trying to solve the design issue around cars? Like, why is it possible to do the erratic behavior you describe when you leave room for the car ahead of you? How can we change the design of either cars or roads to inhibit dangerous behavior? I'm sure most people who read this have driven on an American highway and observe dangerous behaviors from other drivers. It's curious why, as a society, we ignore this as a given for independent transportation.

I think you make a good point here that a lot of people miss: we have things like cheap groceries because as a society we prey on vulnerable people. When do we accept that the reason we get to have avacados and limes year round everywhere in the country is because we are all collectively taking advantage of people? And we have to accept that if we want to take advantage of people less, our day to day will be more expensive.

Wow, think about what it takes to be an elected official (Sheriff) and not only perjure, lie, and coerce witnesses, but be outed for all of those crimes, and then continue to run for election and continue your tenure for decades. How does someone live with themselves knowing they purposely put an innocent man on death row, and then CONTINUE YOUR CAREER, probably thinking yourself as successful?
The guilt I feel when I introduce a software bug that effects my corporate customers can sometimes burn my motivation for WEEKS.
> Soreness? Fatigue? Sure. But rarely pain, unless I’ve made a mistake.
A big part of this is that people inexperienced with pushing themselves will mistake the soreness and fatigue for pain and quit. It's easy for you to say this because you claim to be "fairly fit". You have experience beyond average (at least in the US).
