Generally, people don't care about "fields being impacted", and the students certainly don't. People care about the impact certain technology has on their daily lives, on their welfare and the ability to pay off their mortgage and provide a decent life for their children.

The AI as it is today isn't really doing any of those things. At most, it's a sort of reliable replacement fot Google Search. Worden ehen, it's being presented as threat to all those things the people care about.

We have voted in the most right-wing Parliament and, by extension, Commission, in the EU's history.

It only makes sense they'll prioritize big-business interests over those of the common folk.

I genuinely think it's not ok even then. Copilot is a tool, one of many I use. That tool has no business polluting commit messages without my knowledge.

The appended message isn't even adding any new information, as in this day and age a vast majority of commits is probably "co-authored" by an LLM.

Waymo is a sort of public transit. It's just an vastly more inefficient than any other form of public transit, but an order of magnitude more efficient than private passenger cars.

I agree those results ate handy, but I had several occasions where they turned out to be completely wrong. 95% correctness rate is not good enough.

There are many, many companies out there putting out products that cause cancer. Think about alcohol, tobacco, internal combustion engines, just to name a few most obvious examples.

The cars are getting bigger. That means that the impact is more deadly, and the line of sight is higher - making it easy to overlook a child. The sensors often won't react at low speeds which are common for residential neighborhoods, and at high speeds they are late anyway.

In addition to what /u/bakugo already said, they also have custom global magic functions all over the place.

The code discipline and patterns they encourage are so bad that they had to wrap PhpUnit into their own version of the unit test framework named Pest, because PhpUnit intentionally discourages those patterns natively.

Serbs liked it because our implementation was different (albeit also unsustainable), and we were not forcefully dependent on the Soviet Union.

For example, my father was able to buy a Beta VCR in the late 80s on his engineer's salary, it took him three months of intense saving.

Whenever I read something like this I have to ask if kids are in the picture? Or maybe they've already moved away.

I'd like to do something like this but everything that has to do with kids is both too expensive and too unpredictable for lean living to be an achievable goal.

It was not my intention to describe the civil wars (plural) and the genocide.

They were part of the larger, longer, and not always violent, process of the break-up of countries named Yugoslavia, leading to the deprecation of the .yu domain, which the thread was about.

You got the timeline wrong.

The break-up of Yugoslavia was a long, arguably still on-going, process, the final phase of which happened peacefully. Serbia and Montenegro, that made the post-1992 Yugoslavia, agreed in 2003 to change the name of the country to Serbia and Montenegro, pending the Montenegrin independence referendum scheduled for 2006.

Considering the possibility of another country name depreciation in three years, they agreed to keep the yu domain.

Fun fact, had the Montenegrin referendum gone the other way, the plan was to use .cs as the national domain, which used to be owned by another ex-country, Czechoslovakia.

There is a fundamental issue of trust here. Facebook has me tagged as history nerd so I get to see those slop videos. They are fun, but always superficial and often plainly wrong. So unless the slop comes from a known, trustworthy source, the educational element is simply not there.

For throwing an uppercut it's even more important, if you follow wrong slop instructions you can end up breaking your wrist or fingers.
