Here, have some facts.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_labor_in_the_United_Stat...
Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas did not pay inmates for any work whether inside the prison (such as custodial work and food services) or in state-owned businesses. Additionally, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and South Carolina allowed unpaid labor for at least some jobs.
It’d be inaccurate to say that no one is paid for their labor, but it’s dishonest to claim that all prisoners receive wages, especially when it’s not always the case, it’s an order of magnitude below the federal minimum, and they are forced to pay above-market prices for necessary goods, as others have pointed out.
You can also review Council v. Ivey about parole denial to continue forced labor through one of those fancy terminals.

And yet despite this self-assessed evolution to apex predator status, you probably accept the difficulty and self-restrain from killing other humans during a fit of road rage if you're cut off while driving.
However, some people have cultivated empathy for non-human beings to the point that killing an animal for an easier meal is morally equivalent to killing a human for an easier time on the road.
Some people have also recognized that a bit more difficulty in finding a place to eat is worth it to decrease the ecological impact of eating beef and cheese.
And some others still have realized that not everything should be hedonistic, and enjoy a plant-based diet that contributes to overall greater health even if it means a bit less (or rather, different - vegan food is delicious) sensory pleasure.
Shame can be a powerful motivator to be sure, but altruism and compassion are preferred, here.

like most nutrients, you can weigh them.
for example, you can tell exactly how much protein is in 100g of a complete protein like tofu when compared to 100g of something gross like beef.
similarly, my algae-based capsules contain 1210 mg of omega3s per serving, with 660mg of EPA and 440 of DHA.
> we mostly only know about the benefits of eating fish
nope, this study describes consumption of omega3s, not fish per se.
