Yea, we all swim in the water of non-semantic "stars" and most don't even realize we are wet. Same thing with how bad notifications are as a system (as opposed to the good way: up to date status).

Rating systems without any semantic meaning for the different scores is the underlying problem here. The users are left to fend for themselves and invent meaning for "3 stars" and inevitably different users assign radically different meaning.

I was present (and argued for!) the change from numerals only to semantic labels on kuro5hin and the change was drastic and immediate.

It's the same everywhere: great fundamentals pay off. It's true of martial arts, dance, and absolutely about software platforms. You just have to trust that process and invest in it, which Apple does (although frustratingly not enough!).

I run a non-retina 30" Apple Cinema Display right now. There are some blurry text bugs, but that's super rare and I think has to do with me having a mix of non-retina and retina displays hooked up.

But imo the rendering is still pretty good. Unlike on linux where I constantly see incorrect kerning.

Or that it's a unix with taste that can render fonts correctly and has UI APIs that aren't absolute trash.

I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't pay any "influencers", but maybe they're doing the Mormon church thing and buying ads?

I wasn't saying they had to be self sufficient. I don't think Israel is either. You do have to have something though.

You're trying to argue from rage instead of facts and I'm not buying it. You can be as angry and insulting as you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the reason is that you jump to insults is that you don't have a point.

We DO need to free palestine. But from Hamas. From jihadism. That's what's killing them. Blaming Israel guarantees the kind of dysfunction that allowed Hamas to fester and jihadist nazism to be taught in UN funded schools.

They had equal rights and self-determination in Gaza. For decades. They never built a society from it, instead begging the international community for food, and then starting a war they knew they would lose, only for the PR points of losing badly.

"everyone has the same rules" and "no special privileges" seems disingenuous to say. In both directions! Progressive tax codes are "the same" for "everyone", but obviously will mean the rich pay more. Now you can argue that's unfair or that it's extremely fair, but it's at least different!
