Curious what HackerNews users are using right now. Mapping my IDE usage since 2022
Goland (2022-2024)-> Cursor(November 2024 to February 2026) -> Claude Code (& VSCode or Cursor for manual edits)
The Claude Code setup is interesting, I use the terminal or GitHub for diffs. I do open an editor to do manual edits, especially when I am doing something new( that the LLM hasn't been trained on) or debugging something.
Potential improvements
Stripe Projects ( creating API keys from CLI) as something that I have wanted in the past as with LLMs sometimes with a project the slowest part seems to be deployment / bringing all the keys. I also don't enjoy the fact that I can't push a job to the web when I am leaving work. Worktrees aren't fun as I can't run the services on different ports that easily for testing, further managing different TMUXs is painful. I am curious what tools people here are using, also what do people do while the LLM generates.

I forgot to add, you can try TabTabTab, without installing anything as well.
To see something much more powerful on Google Sheets than Gemini for free, you can add "try@tabtabtab.ai" to your sheet, and make a comment tagging "try@tabtabtab.ai" and see it in action.
If that is too much just go to ttt.new!

I would recommend trying TabTabTab at https://tabtabtab.ai/
It is an entire agent loop. You can ask it to build a multi sheet analysis of your favorite stock and it will. We are seeing a lot of early adopters use it for financial modeling, research automation, and internal reporting tasks that used to take hours.

I am curious if people here roll their own agents from scratch or use frameworks. I am trying to what frameworks are really working, and why. I have so far hand-rolled all of my agents, some of this is because when I first tried LangChain I was intimidated by how complex/bloated it was. It felt like writing Java while I was actually writing Python. There is also a big element of wanting a lot more control on how my agent works compared to what a framework could provide us (around context management, compacting histories if the chat gets too big etc). Having said that I am curious
1. Do you use frameworks, if so which one?
2. If you used a framework but churned, which one did you churn from and why?
3. How has the process of rolling your own framework been? How is the experience of running it in production?

This is a very interesting read, we are building Cursor for Google Sheets and the variance of use-cases we see is insane.
1. A lot of people are creating dashboards / CRMs - either they don't have any one selling them verticalized Software or its too expensive.
2. Some people have verticalized Software and they use Sheets so that they can share data with others without paying for per seat SaaS while not worrying about what the new members can read/write into
3. Lots of financial modeling and planning - From a chain of Cafe's in Laos, to Startups raising funding.
4. Lots of teachers trying to do scheduling for their school while ensuring that the teachers get enough of a break. We have seen this in Colombia, the US and Italy
5. A lot of market research and enrichment
A Spreadsheet really is the IDE of a billion people. You can try us here https://tabtabtab.ai/

Hello, HN!
We are Gyani and Vasin. We’re building TabTabTab (https://tabtabtab.ai), an AI agent that helps you work faster in Google Sheets. Before this we worked at Bloomberg (where we met 7 years ago), Citadel, and Palantir.
We’re software engineers, and it feels fundamentally unfair that the best AI tools are limited to software engineers. Most knowledge workers only have ChatGPT as the best option. We want to give everyone AI superpowers.
A few months ago, we started by putting AI into copy and paste. Our assistant was aware of what you copied, and transformed it as you pasted it. We built this on accessibility and screenshot APIs. The goal was to move away from the chat box by building on one of the most-used shortcuts: copy and paste.
We noticed most users were using it to structure data in Google Sheets. They would copy from places like LinkedIn, PostHog, booking sites, business directories, and conference websites, then structure it in Sheets.
We decided to narrow in on this. We can deliver far more value if the interaction doesn’t end at paste. Much of what people do with copy and paste can be handled by an agent using web search, crawling, and data providers. And once the data is in the sheet, people want to do something with it—so we help with that too.
That’s how TabTabTab for Google Sheets was born. It’s a Chrome extension that lets you interact with a copilot that understands Google Sheets, can run code, has access to web search and enrichment APIs, and can crawl the web (we can do this on our backend or locally on your computer if you grant extra permissions).
While it’s very early, we’ve seen some interesting use cases:
- One of our first paying customers (a complete stranger) is a bank manager in Laos who also runs cafes on the side. He used TabTabTab to model the business, launch the main shop and five additional locations, and now uses it to manage the operation.
- Many people use us for enrichment. We ship with search plus some APIs, so if you have a list of LinkedIn URLs and want to figure out who they are, we can do that for you.
- We’ve seen data analysis use cases like customer segmentation, sensitivity analysis, categorizing and ranking data, and teachers building course schedules and staff allocations.
This seems to resonate with generalists and SMB professionals. Often they’re very comfortable with Google Sheets and don’t want to learn a new tool for a specific job, or there simply isn’t a tool for their use case—so they pick Google Sheets, and now us.
Permissions: You sign in with your Google account. We can only see files you explicitly grant access to, individually. Our Chrome permissions are standard. Optionally, we can request permission to open websites on your behalf (for example, if you’re trying to find mutual connections with someone on LinkedIn).
Pricing: Free Pro trial for 7 days, then $20/month for Pro, which includes access to Claude 4 Sonnet, GPT-5, and Gemini 2.5 Pro. There’s also a free tier with generous limits on more basic models.
Link to extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tabtabtab-the-ai-ag... (works on all major browsers like Chrome, Edge, Safari)
We’re here to help! If you need anything, reach us at hello at tabtabtab dot ai.
Thanks,
Gyani & Vasin
