Presumably the guard is supposed to keep the "bad people" out, so that kids can be safe.
Instead, the Mom is placed on probation for seven years and will have monthly visits from CPS.

At a minimum a judge signed warrant should be required for any data access.
Second, a third-party annual security and data audit, with power to revoke licenses if findings aren't mitigated within a reasonable time frame.
Finally, a civilian oversight committee with real power to sanction bad actors.

It seems reasonable that Axon, the #1 police body camera vendor, would benefit from a national social media wave of hate towards it's competitor Flock.
People who get angry enough to tear down the Flock cameras in their area get rounded up and classified by the Feds as "leftist terrorists".
Axon gets a major boost to it's revenue by landing fat .gov contracts for it's own version of 24/7 surveillance.
Government employees who approve the contracts get rich on insider trading.
https://www.axon.com/

Personally the line for me is a human police officer with reasonable judgement and accountability.
If an officer was standing next to every Flock camera in America, the public would be hyper aware of the situation we are now in.
Mass, warrantless, and perpetual surveillance is incompatible with liberty and unacceptable to the vast majority of Americans.
It has to be stopped, or we are doomed.

I asked my local sheriff about the Flock cameras that are located on my street.
He swore that they were only "ALPR" (Automatic License Plate Readers) and "definitely not Flock cameras".
I went and looked again, and they definitely are Flock cameras, so that's nice.

Video editing, thumbnails, etc. Even hiring multiple Linux developers to help him get through a tricky spot in the build would be reasonable for someone "retired" but with a lot of money.

It's routine and trivial for the US Gov to enforce export controls on non-US based companies.
This "across the border" strategy will not work.
Seagate Singapore was hit with civil penalties and settlements for shipments to Huawei under the Foreign Direct Product Rule.
ZTE, a Chinese company, was criminally prosecuted and settled with U.S. DOJ/BIS in 2017 for violating U.S. export controls and sanctions.
