His argument is: this process is annoying, difficult and takes actual effort.

As extra validation is. It is a pain in the ass. Get over it.

He was the one to make the commentary on the process showcasing his personality so it's open season on that dialogue.

HBO is sort of foolish, in some of the statements their head has made. They really don't get this internet thing and still think it's going to be a passing fad.

For now it's fine of course, but it sounds like they want to be dragged kicking and screaming into new distribution. Instead of being a leader and putting themselves into a powerful position (they already create incredible content)

I tend to take people that have a running douchey commentary with a grain of salt.

Plus he was going for validation, which isn't free and is a pretty obnoxious process regardless of who you go with.

Do you honestly believe that there would be any damage to your company's image that would last more than 5 seconds to a small minority of people that would even see an article regrading "improper language"?

Unless your fellow developers are posting extremely obscene racial slurs and threatening rape on the interns. In which case your company has bigger issues to worry about.

Didn't they start pushing that crap a while ago. It used to be fairly low key crap, but still junk no person reasonably wants or would expect to be installed. They depend on people not knowing better and not paying attention.

There is no value added to the end user.

The response was meant to be a joke but the question was pretty legit and left somewhat unanswered.

I think it was about 5-6 years ago but there was a case where a backdoor was hacked into the source code, it was pretty subtle for a change but was caught because of how it was done.
