Obviously they are extremely fast in comparison to the best human programmers, but they are still too slow to be our one-to-one enhanced pair programmer. Our current solution is multi-instances, toggling between tasks. However, Multitasking is known to be a poor method, with low productivity and causing harm as it increases cognitive load, stress and fatigue levels.

I am sure that this is temporary and we will soon have coding assistants fast enough for deep focus on single tasks. What do you think?

But you are right we should explain it somewhere !

Nevertheless it gives some insight about if people have interest in what you do or not. It also goes together with feedback and exchanges that we collect from users.

Manifest started as an internal project in our digital agency to become an open source product helping developers to build their backends.

I am happy to share our progress today, it is really enjoyable to see a friendly community blossom and see what others are building on top of our product.

I am also surprised by the kindness of people in the open source community: we met many incredibly caring people that helped us and told us tips, their own challenges and their way of thinking.

As of today Manifest (https://github.com/mnfst/manifest) is still in its early days but we would love to see it grow. 1k stars is meaningless, as any number of stars if it doesn't fulfill your objectives. However it gives us strength to continue and think "yeah, there's people out there who care, or are at least curious about what we're doing right now".

Work is never over :)

The API will have to expose endpoints and do CRUD operations for the most part.

I am a developer with few skills in DevOps and I am looking for a solution to run small APIs on docker containers. My goal is to have the least amount of infrastructure to manage as I am short on time and I am relatively new to it so I see the "severless" abstraction a good thing for my current situation/

I think that Lambda is cool for that but I found the AWS UI quite overwhelming. I checked Digital Ocean functions but you can't use a container. Do you know other similar products ?

https://manifest.build/ is a really simple 1-file backend to power the API of small to medium websites, apps, directories and so on.

We first presented it as "A complete backend that fits into 1 YAML file" and got some attention. However, it can be deceptive as it does not compare to "real" backend frameworks like Laravel, Django or NestJS. Nor does it compete with backend infrastructure products.

Talking with Manifest users, we found out that many of them were using it as a Headless CMS, so we are currently presenting it as such. However even there we are not 100% satisfied as it differs from the "rich content experience" offered by products like Sanity or Hygraph.

As a developer, how would you call Manifest ?

Yes, the DB is SQLite. We chose it among others as it is file based and thus you get get up and running in seconds.

Authentication and authorization are key features, I agree. They were not integrated in the POC but they will come very soon. There actually is auth for the admin panel, I just need to standardize it for other entities.

I got it for the CMS use case, Manifest's aim is not to be a competitor of large frameworks that gives you the control of everything. We rather think that it will fit for another typology of projects. You can use it as a headless CMS, but there already is products like Strapi or Directus that get the job done. I am thinking more about projects with more "app" logic, but the next step is adding custom logic to it.
