Meanwhile, your next door neighbor spends their entire life developing their understanding of life through art. They "understand" (maybe not in a way they can articulate) art. You go next door, you look at their painting and say, "well I guess it's good." But you also understand that your neighbor is just like you, and maybe you are a painter in another way.

I find it strange that, people can't see that, we don't need to solve hunger and poverty and work balance, and etc, by a round-about make-super-intelligent-AI. We could just solve it. It's pretty obvious how to, as well.

We can all be painters, if we put restrictions on the psychopaths.

It's that I want to be given back things they do as well. I want them to contribute back.

This project does something, and it's pretty neat. If someone takes the project and has another clever idea on what to do next, I want to see it. I want them to reciprocate.

Dunno- maybe this doesn't make sense.

I wouldn't mind if people used the code, etc. It's that I want to be given back. That's the trade off. Not paid, free code, must give back. You piggyback and find this other thing, then I want to see it too.

But I can't figure out how.

In the past, I could make it GPL - the amount of work I've put in is a lot actually - a human would need many months to replicate it, even if they knew exactly what it did - and much was grueling. But now, some jerk can just feed in my code and ask for an equivalent code base.

I mean, they probably wouldn't even be touching the generated code - all that detailed work becomes somebody else's "concept."

Has anyone dealt with this?

All I see from AI, is an amplification of the enshittification of the internet.

And people being even more alone.

You have a company, it is worth below X dollars? You do what you want. Above X dollars, now you get government minder for every decision.

All of the "buying to shutdown competitors"- not possible - you don't have enough cash! Well I mean, it would be possible, but it would also carry huge risk. (As you don't have infinite cash reserves)

Keep your companies small and agile, stay focused on your primary initiative, distribute profits to your employees, build infrastructure, contribute back --- I like this.

Just the other day, I tried to have openrouter route to my local ollama, and it refused. Apparently I have to pay for this privilege. How wonderful.

Imagine we could run what we wanted. Imagine that we could use whatever payment system we wanted.

Imagine if apple wanted you to use Apple app X, it would need to compete and make it amazing, not just lock you in. Same with payment systems.

The fact that this is our current state of tech, tells me that all of the politicians are bought, and that the tech sector has rotten.

We are going to have kids who, instead of imagining their own fantasy lands, are given them by AI. Of course the AI will be far superior to a 6 year old- how will they be able to resist the AI drip, when even adults can't.

A generation growing up without imagining. So depressing.

No. We don't. Original good ideas are exceedingly rare.

Also, what we really have learned, is that the typical techie isn't interested in pureness of thought and originality, exploration of the beauty of the unknown, but rather making a quick buck.. A good idea will be taken and used without credit.

We'll see whether or not LLMs have original ideas soon I guess. I wonder.

Waymo had a story on this site not long ago. All of the comments were mostly positive - but in real life, no real life human I know wants Waymo. None. And anyone who bikes is vigorously against it.

So- who is the audience for all of this? Reading this AI slop article - I just feel as if a moment of my life was wasted. And not wasted by poor writing, but by meaningless synth.

I hope we have the de-slop button soon. Ad-block -> Slop-block. I would rather read bad writing with meaning, than meaningless organized prose.

And whenever I see videos explaining the Gaussian splats, they always claim they are supposed to fix lighting issues.

If you are in a band, and you are playing all the time, obviously you are an artist. The job is facilitating you playing. The playing is the focus.

Someone who decides in college, or directly after college, "you know what, I'm just gonna be a programmer." Then touches the piano every once in a while, or plays with his friends every once in a while. I don't call that an artist.

There are so many of these people. They aren't artists. Sorry. Are the smart, probably, are they talented, probably, are they committed, yes to programming.
