I respected the "No Pure Managers" part. That's similar to what happened at our org.
The question remains, if there are no pure managers, then is this CSM / Sales shipping production code? If yes, then it's indeed scary...
> No pure managers: Every leader at Coinbase must also be a strong and active individual contributor. Managers should be like player-coaches, getting their hands dirty alongside their teams.

I really appreciate this share. It's very honest.
Makes me think that anything taken too far can be a bad thing. Pity in its raw form is an incredibly empathetic side of our human nature and can be extraordinary.
However, if pity is made a reward system for the people receiving the empathy, it can be used manipulatively. I believe CS Lewis called it "a passion for pity" (I could be wrong).

I appreciate the data driven approach. The article is spot on, it's really hard to distinguish all the discourse with the reality. Things most people grew up with in the 70s had years of propaganda convincing the public they were a net positive to society.
Sidebar, I'm very curious to see where AI goes. Definitely not on the hype train. More curious than anything. This article was a breath of fresh air.

I’ve noticed a lot of business models intentionally try to funnel you through their sales pipeline and only expose the price after “getting to know you”.
Which is slang for “getting a chance to plead their case for why it’s going to be so bloody expensive”.

Hm I’m not sure what the takeaway from this is. Are we shocked that Anthropic has such an aggressive issue auto close policy for tools that essentially automate issue creation?
The inverse (not auto closing issues) seems worse.
Perhaps the take away is the “without review” part. But that begs more questions. What would a review system be? We can’t possibly expect it to be human reviewers for all the slop.
