Obvious rage bait aside, this is exactly what the author of the book presented in the article cautions against:
> The Neanderthal genome, he warns, remains ‘something of a Rorschach test onto which people project ideas and assumptions about ancestry and what it means to be human – or differently human’.
Maybe read an article before commenting on it.

> for example the 2026 discovery that interbreeding was predominantly between Neanderthal males and human females, and not between Neanderthal females and human males.
I thought this was an interesting detail in the article, and trying to find out more about a possible reason for this discrepancy, I found a recent paper concluding that this was possibly due to mate preference [1]. Neanderthal dudes were smoking hot!
[1]: https://www.science.org/doi/abs/10.1126/science.aea6774

Just tag POI, they get stale so quickly. Everybody wants to tag the roads, but the real gap in many places is stale POI, or missing tags like opening hours. You'll get much less attention from these gatekeepers there too

LinkedIn is such a shit fest. First they push AI generated posts, now you can mark posts as slop but guess what: you're not flagging that content, you're labeling it.

Darwin's "The voyage of the Beagle" which is basically his edited travel diary. It's a slow read because he just describes his observations on animals and landscape (he was really into geology) and sometimes the interactions with the people there (lots of tensions between the settlers and the "Indians"), but overall an interesting read.

I agree that it very much depends on latitude and time of year. In most of Europe, overcast days usually don't present much of a problem for me, but I remember spending a day at the beach in Ecuador under very dense cloud cover and getting one of the worst burns I've ever had

I wouldn't see myself as constantly wound up, but I get your angle. I also was at most half serious, alluding to a time not long ago in a country not far away, where this instrument had its moment.
And in retrospect, the French revolution is not considered a dark episode of modern history, on the contrary.

JOSM aside, I think it's great to target people that read HN with this article. They are likely tech savvy and as much as OSM tries to make it easy for less tech savvy folks to contribute, it's just not really feasible without third party apps like StreetComplete. I recently tried to teach my dad, who was interested but completely overwhelmed, even by the iD editor, and the whole idea of the data model. Which is a shame because he knows so much about the area where he lives.

The battery life during workout tracking did at least see a 3x improvement. 14 hours sounds plenty at first until you start riding your bike over long distances! 45 hours should cover most except the craziest ultra athletes, and those are probably sponsored by Garmin anyway
