Once the trolls realized that they could convince enough people to join or believe them to impact the real world it was over for internet freedom. The people that have held power for generations don't like losing that power. It's a shame that we'll lose most of the good parts of the internet along with it too, and all we'll be left with is a platform for entertainment of the most clicks. The internet can't route around broken culture.

Food in the US is regularly subsidized, especially meat. It's how we compete unfairly with the rest of the world. ISPs already receive massive subsidies to have laid fiber they decided not to lay. They kept the money though. The US pays more for healthcare and receives poorer results on average than anywhere else in the world. Pretty sure you're unfamiliar with the differences between socialism and communism. The US is a heavily socialist state with massive corporate welfare plans. Instead of spending our money on taking care of our people we take care of the wealthy.

Cities have some of the most expensive internet rates. The US has some of the most expensive internet in the entire world. Your distance argument only makes sense if you take away the billions given to ISPs to lay black fiber. Cities would be super cheap internet. That's not what happened. ISPs charge exorbitant fees for a service they barely keep up to date. Remote settlements are often what allows those cities to exist and who are you to tell people where and how they should live?

This is exactly right. There's utility in being an as needed source of power as well as storage point. There's so many different types of storage options as well. There's batteries, liquid potential energy storage, potentially flywheel but this hasn't worked out too well, there's adding wind capacity.
As a business model they get to charge for storage maintenance and generation when needed. Storage is a consistent amount of money with extra coming in from power generation as needed.

Interesting because I've got a box to just shut off my power. If I don't pay my bill the company can shut off my power. Seems to me that the power company should be looking at ways to handle the free power generation the public is providing and being the storage utility, otherwise the homeowners can just start storing it themselves and cut the power company out of the picture entirely.

I spent three months with my corporate IT on a problem I'd diagnosed in 10 minutes, because in a previous life I was corporate IT and had experience doing exactly what they were doing. After explaining what and why I thought the issue was what I thought it was they told me I couldn't be right and I let them dig at it. After multiple calls to Microsoft, who was equally confused, they finally got to an advanced tech. They called me and told me proudly they'd discovered the issue. It was exactly what I'd said three months earlier. This is not the last time issues like this have come up with my corporate IT. I always assume incomptence unless shown otherwise. I'll be polite but I don't think it's always the right solution.

Demand side subsidies have never lowered prices in the US as far as I'm aware. The latest Trump tax breaks, the Kansas tax breaks, and pretty much every time you goose demand side they pocket the money as profit and keep charging the same. Why should they decrease their profits if the government gives them free money?

Because chiropracty can be very dangerous if the person performing it is not trained on basic human physiology. There is literally nothing other than magic for a chiropractor. Everything useful is just basic massage techniques, which is a field with proven benefits.

Chiropractic medicine is entirely state based since there's no science behind it. Every state has their own rules about what it takes to be called a chiropractor. Some get actual training on physiology and musculature but definitely not all. It's always going to be hot or miss on whether or not they are going to leave you paralyzed or feeling better.

I'm another for dark mode. I've been doing it for years when it's been available and I switched my phone because my previous one didn't have it. Even with the backlight cranked all the way down it was physically painful to look at. Others have suggested turning up the lights, well you can't do this in vehicles driving at night. It's also difficult if you're sharing a room with someone. I suspect I may be outside the range of normal people as going outside without sunglasses isn't a pleasant experience for me and I've got added sensitivity due to chemo. I do happen to be night owl normally not sure if that really matters or correlates to anything. I don't have the same problem with books, just items with backlighting.

It really hit home with me when I heard it. I'm really hard on myself, especially since with so many balls in the air it can be easy to drop one now and again. When I heard those words it was like a ton of bricks I'd been carrying were just set down because it was so simple, yet so profound to me. If I dropped a ball it wasn't failure, it was just pausing those things in life I couldn't make space for, when I had the space I could take them right back up. I'm glad it resonated with you as well.

I've been really lucky in my treatment and I'm well past my expected survivability so I'm good with the condition.
Regarding the taint you feel, that's similar to writers block. Try a different setting if you can, make sure you're enjoying yourself before you start. Then just go with it. No expectations, no harsh deadlines. You get done what you get done and you're going to have fun doing it. This is going to sound like a really odd thing to do but it really does change some things, take a few deep breaths holding them for a bit before letting them go and after that just shake the anxiety out. Shake your whole body until you feel silly. When you sit down, smile, even if it's forced and make sure your posture is not slouched. Your mind will follow your body. Then start whatever it is you want to do.

I've got terminal cancer in the US. I'm looking at the prospect of losing my job, which means my health insurance, which means I'll have to stop getting treatment and die. I feel you about constant anxiety. Might I first suggest you realize you're human and that where you're at isn't some crazy abnormal place right now.
I've had times where I've gotten frustrated because with a literal deadline I'm still just too tired to get things done and I beat myself up over things I can't control so it's easy for me to negate the small progress I make because I'm comparing myself to a healthy version of myself.
I'm glad to see that you are in therapy. It's going to feel like some days you get nowhere. Remember that any goal you're trying to attain that's difficult is like climbing a mountain. The higher up you go the harder it is to see all the individual steps it took to get there. With life once you get to the top of one mountain, there's always another mountain to climb. It's a journey not an objective.
There's a Buddhist saying that's helped me when I get frustrated at myself for getting set back."Begin Again". Get stuck on something, begin again. Life intrude on your learning for a bit? Begin again. Lose everything in a terrible storm ? Begin again.
For reviving the love of coding, I suggest doing something you either enjoy with coding or something you see as having purpose. Make it small as a project, then break it up into smaller parts. Start with the hard part. When you get frustrated work on something easy or give yourself some time to just think on the problem. Is there a different way to view it, are you trying to be too complicated, what would it look like if you could be absolutely sure it would work, are there smaller tasks this could be broken into that would be easier to solve apart?
You're worth putting in this effort. You can do it. Love and light.

Or that they're a business that doesn't want that kind of publicity. Just because you have a loudspeaker and a podium at your business doesn't mean you need to let everyone walking in to your office use it. Just as Chick-fil-A chooses not to be open on Sundays, Walmart chooses to sell bullets not guns, and Dunkin chose to make their company name really stupid sounding they're allowed to make business decisions good, bad, it otherwise because they think it will be the best thing for their bottom line.
