I hear great things about OrbStack; unfortunately the licensing tied to their free offering doesn't play nicely with corporate environments (and we're cheap!).

I switched to Colima instead and couldn't be happier.

After years of trialling a variety of notebook setups, I eventually fell back to vscode & git. I've even given up on Markdown (nothing wrong with it, I just realised I never actually view my own notes in parsed Markdown so I stopped bothering).

All I need is a file structure that I understand, and an editor for typing and searching :)

Git is great for (i) persistence, (ii) availability and (iii) the merge flow encourages me to review/clean changes before merging them to main.

Very similar experience. My instinct would be to fight the sickness and push through, but in reality you need to stop immediately and try again in a few hours. Your tolerance tends to build exponentially!

This. Most companies running on AWS/GCP/Azure are paying nowhere near the advertised costs.

B2B deals are not like consumer ones. Often times companies will "trade" their own business' service in place of cash.

Not a US citizen so forgive me - but does the IRS not auto file tax returns for "regular" incomes - those managed fully by your employer?

In my country, it's automatically done for those with "regular" incomes, even end of year tax back is as simple as logging on to Revenue and clicking a button.

You're only on your own if you're self employed, generate non-standard income etc (like shares, which I imagine most people on HN are).

In those cases, the government does _not_ know how much you earn until your audited. And audits are neither automated nor simple, a dedicated auditor is tasked with identifying all your sources of income and verifying everything. Point being it's manual.

We're experiencing a lot of performance issues with Istio in larger clusters of 4-5k pods and several k services, where high churn rates causes the control plane to go ballistic.

KWOK allows us to reproduce this load without spending a penny.
