Call that conserving energy. Contrary to commonly-held belief, calories are a very ambiguous concept.

I'm not sure if building anything is worth it at this stage. I wonder if starting it as a community-editable Proton Sheet would work. If that leads to an accumulation of quality links, it would be worth building a site for it.

Does anyone know any curated forum directories? Forums like in the early 2000s. Places that aren't owned and governed by some corporate overlord. Places with genuine interaction rather than senseless ragebait and "content" designed to generate likes and shares. Places that aren't merely echo-chambers.

> It’s actually exquisitely well-designed and painstaking crafted. It’s exactly the sort of app that the App Store ought to celebrate and highlight.
Exactly what I thought at some point. Apple, or whoever they outsource their app store reviews to, certainly try hard to beat that kind of idealism out of people. I let my developer subscription run out and moved on to make web apps only. Never looked back.

My app already is a webpage. I made Android and iOS apps for years. Got fed up with the arbitrary roadblocks, erratic whims of store reviewers, and general bureaucracy involved.
Pushing a simple fix would sometimes be delayed for days and a couple of weeks in the worst case I experienced. Now I can deploy patches immediately and no one needs to download or update anything on their device. Abandoning those walled garden regimes was one of the best things I ever did.

https://gymify.it to seamlessly integrate exercise into daily life, rather than rigidly scheduling and compartmentalizing it. Small exercise sessions of 1-2 minutes throughout the day clear my head, give me fresh ideas, and keep me in shape. I'm building this site as a tool to keep track in a pressure-free way and to discover new exercises. It's partly about social accountability and one of the key ideas is to see what people do and don't do in terms of exercise.

Yes, personally, this works very well for me for any exercise. To get better at pull- and push-ups, I just do lots of them and rarely ever go to my limits. I look at training as practice. My aim is to be comfortable with pull- and push-ups, pistol squats, etc. Focus on process rather than outcome.
It's good to hear that there are gym trainers who advocate for this. From what I've seen, this approach seems to go contrary to popular belief and some people tend to be quite adamant about it, insisting on specific routines, splits, and rest days, but it's how I went from not being able to do a single push-up to effortlessly doing 10 consecutive one-arm push-ups. I just practice.

I argue that taking a minute or two every hour or so to do a few reps of an exercise clears people's thinking, lends perspective, provides fresh ideas, is great for general mental health, and hence, makes people more productive and happier than sitting for 8 hours or more and going to a gym after.
Small training sessions at work, throughout the day, are also great to build a strong team spirit and feel pumped all day. Unfortunately, people tend to rigidly compartmentalize rather than seamlessly integrate physical activity into their lifestyles.

I stopped going to the gym years ago, because it took up too much of my time. It's how I train these days. It definitely works for me. I do micro-sessions of high resistance, high contraction variations throughout the day and am in the best shape of my life. Plus it clears my thinking and gives me fresh ideas. So I was just wondering if other people have similar experiences.

In The Playlist (2022), Spotify co-founder Martin Lorentzon engages in an enthusiastic office push-up competition. In Terminator 2 (1991), Sarah Connor does chin-ups on her bedframe propped up sideways. In Creed III (2023), Damian "Dame" Anderson casually does chin-ups on his staircase while watching TV.
Do any of you train like that? Casual consistency over scheduled routine?

I think the idea is awesome and has potential. The name could be catchier though. Personally, I would also prefer a web app.
It's tough to get a social network or community off the ground without any existing base. Facebook took off because they digitalized existing social networks. Reddit was seeded with content posted by its creators using multiple accounts.
Maybe you could figure out a way to make it valuable as a single-player tool first, and when you have enough single-players, the multiplayer network comes alive.
I haven't tried your app, because I avoid anything Android or iOS, but to me the idea sounds like something worth pursuing.

Many people seem to have a "work from home" preference. Some seem to prefer going to an office for social reasons. I wonder, where the "exercise at home" movement is, considering that gyms don't tend to be very social places? Gym membership fees are also not cheap and one has to commute to the gym. Do people believe that gyms are more effective than exercising at home?

https://hbit.app
I made this app to inspire people to habitually and spontaneously exercise and to be physically active as an integral part of life. You can use the app solo to discover and share new exercises. And you can use it with friends, family and colleagues to challenge each other and to battle it out in combat mode (competitions of who does more repetitions).
Availability: Android and iOS
Price: Currently free
Cost to me: Time and effort to build, adjust and update the app.
Why do it?
Exercise and physical activity have a very positive impact on my life, especially mentally. I think that a lot of people tend to look at exercise as something that primarily benefits their looks though and hence as something they should be doing, without seeing much (if any) joy in it.
Personally, I have no exercise goals, I don't schedule time to exercise, I don't look at exercise as something that I dread or have to do and I eat what I want and as much as I want. For me, the most important benefits of exercise and physical activity are that being physically active makes me feel good and that it clears my thinking. Physical fitness is merely a nice bonus that comes with it.
So the aim of the Hbit project is to sway people's perception from exercise as a dreadful chore to exercise as playful fun.
