I would avoid enabling QUIC manually anywhere anyway for now, Google controls both endpoints and the RFC so it clearly has an advantage there.

Is Paypal still working? It used to be the payment mechanism everyone had to use (not with pleasure) and people even transacted using it for P2P transfer. I haven't really seen it in a while, someone asked me on marketplace if I could receive payment with it (instead of the typical venmo) and I just assumed it was a scam.

I always find these messages weird, because in the end it's one engineer like you and I who looked at some open sourced stuff and decided to use it, and perhaps it didn't really do what they wanted so they forked it, and it ended up being used in whatever product they were working on, and in the grand scheme of things it was not about a big trillion dollar company being evil, it was about how engineers do their work nowadays.

I used to use pocket a lot, but the UI is bad, reading offline articles wouldn't work all the time, and I ended up actually not revisiting pocket much, piling up a lot of articles that I would never read. Should I give raindrop a try?

Commuting is destroying cities (we give up space for cars, noise pollution, pedestrian streets, etc.), people (how much time do you lose in commute?), and the world (pollution).

Cars were invented in an era where cities were not as dense, and where jobs were mostly done in person. With the advent of the internet and personal computers, this is changing, that you want it or not.

internet and social medias pretty much emphasized problems that were already existent, and made them much harder to ignore. For example, I truly believe gay marriage wouldn't have been a thing worldwide without social medias. I think Americans need to have a talk about what they want to define as protected free speech, and what consist speech that endanger others or doesn't move the world in a better place (perhaps this needs a definition of what "a better place" is as well).

If you want a more theoretical review of byzantine consensus protocols, you need to read through the gossip-based protocol literature, in particular byzantine broadcast protocols[1], where consensus is just one powerful primitive among others.

Most people on HN have no idea what they're talking about. So I'll give you an idea: DLT (distributed ledger technology) is good for one reason: it's a consensus mechanism. You have a distributed architecture and you want different machines to agree on the same state, even when some of them are compromised. This is not just sexy for handling money (cryptocurrencies) but this is a long-standing problem in computer science. Consensus that doesn't care about compromise exist and is used all over the place in database replication (RAFT).
