Apparently we've blown way past the Turing test and approaching AGI and yet LLM-generated text still sticks out like a sore thumb. Maybe LLMs aren't that good at writing after all.

And most of that growth is just garbage. I'm not even anti-AI, but just look at the quality of projects on GitHub these days. The site is full of spam, it's not a place for professionals anymore.

Sorry to be flippant but when somebody makes their argument based on their experience with “ChatGPT” I automatically assume their opinion is completely unqualified. ChatGPT is not a model, and your comment gives no indication of when this happened. Whether it happened last week or last year makes a big difference. As does how ChatGPT wraps the LLM and how you interact with it.

Social media platforms have been paying out for attention seeking behaviour for a long time now. It’s why every YouTube video now has the same lame shocked face, red arrows, and clickbait title. It’s why assholes film themselves intentionally pissing people off for TikTok. It’s a whole category called nuisance tubing.

I remember during COVID I saw a number of YouTubers swing from producing normal content into conspiracy shit. Their views ballooned. I saw a nasty feedback loop where the more controversial content received more engagement, hence more ad revenue, leading to more of it being produced.

These platforms are actively degenerating society; there’s a reason the CCP is keeping tight control and reportedly rebalancing things to promote educational creators on China’s.

AI “detection” tools should be banned. They have the potential to cause as much harm as AI plagiarism itself. Non technical people don’t understand the shortcomings of such tools, they treat the verdict as truth.

People need to learn any time these CEOs say “probably”/“maybe”/“could”, it’s a careful selection of words intended to pump the stock in a way they can’t be sued. It was BS from the beginning, there was never going to be a daily launch. It’s what Musk does best, he projects a futuristic vision he has no means of realistically achieving.

Brand new GitHub account, brand new HN account. I stay far away from projects like this these days, they can easily be malicious. GitHub needs some kind of indicator for projects authored by tenured developers with a real identity.

I dabbled with it for a while and hated how I couldn’t work with the library programatically. A few people found a way to decrypt the database (yes, it’s encrypted for obfuscation, rolls eyes) and manipulate it but it’s akin to brain surgery.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro and honestly can’t tell the difference between mine and the newest gen besides the different colour options.

Releasing a new iPhone every year at this point is stupid, innovation has slowed right down, but Apple aren’t going to turn down the free FOMO money.

You might like IncusOS. I found some rough edges but it has some very nice properties like the OS being immutable, and having no shell.
