I mean alcohol is the worst drug: it’s highly addictive, toxic to the body, one of the few drugs with potentially fatal withdrawal, and a major driver of violence, accidents, and family breakdown. Unlike most drugs, it seriously harms people beyond the user — and because it’s legal, cheap, and socially normalised, its damage happens on a massive scale.

It’s purely luck driving success. The book _thinking fast and slow_ illustrates it quite eloquently. Real geniuses are rare and even then they do not necessary become successful

Precisely my problem. I only apply if I know I’m a good fit and have the required experience. I spent countless hours manually adjusting my resume and writing cover letter out of my heart. Just got the usual cold rejection from a no-reply address. I know do the same with ChatGPT. I also get rejections, but at least I waste little time and can therefore submit many more applications - so my odds are higher

I'd agree until few months ago, but now my wife's dad lucidity is degrading pretty quickly.

Until few years ago he was a proficient digital photographer with advanced Photoshop knowledge. He was definitely tech literate and also have used Apple gears its infancy (the first guy in town to own an iPhone).

But now he forgets his passcode, or the fact that he can just use his thumb to unlock the phone. He keeps deleting his bank app and then goes to the nearby computer store shop to get it back. He also saved a scammer number claiming to be his daughter with a new phone (well, actually asked a friend to save it because he forgot how to do it).

Because we live abroad it's quite hard to check on him and his device to make sure he's safe and have been wondering myself how to best deal with the situation.

I’m curious to understand your perspective:m as to why a business that focus on the user may expose to risk? Doesn’t meeting user needs equals to making users happy which in turn equals to making more money?
