Gloves aren't really a mainstream consumer product yet in a way that you'd expect in the future. When I'm typing in VR, I have to put my controllers down to the side of the keyboard. Easy to pick them back up though. It certainly would be nice to have the keyboard tracked so I don't have to slide my hands on the desk to look for it, but once I grab it, typing is fine.

In 2014, I posted a chrome extension called UX Check (http://uxcheck.co) as a Show HN. It didn't get any traction, but a month later, somebody reposted it and it hit the front page. I received an amazing amount of encouragement and support, with tons of great feedback. I rolled a lot of that feedback into an update a month or two later, and within 6 months, I had decided to leave my job to work full time on building a related product. Still working on that product and not ready to share it yet, but thank you to everyone!

Accessibility tip - you're probably thinking of the "title" attribute. Agreed though.

Yikes, that's bad. Do you use any accessibility settings like changing the font size on websites? Or are you on an older version of Chrome? Thanks for sharing.

That was the most frustrating part of the project. I used the Open XML SDK for Javascript. There isn't a whole lot of documentation so it was a lot of guess and check.
http://openxmldeveloper.org/wiki/w/wiki/open-xml-sdk-for-jav...

I used a Chrome extension API. One alternative I've heard is copying the DOM over into a separate canvas element, which you can save as an image. I haven't tried that yet though.
https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/tabs#method-captureV...

Thanks! V2 will support custom heuristics so hopefully that will help. I'll consider adding more severity ratings as well.

Thanks!
1. There actually already is HTML output. My idea is that most people will likely copy/paste from HTML or a Word Doc to combine with their collaborators. From that perspective, PDF feels too 'finished'. And yeah, as someone else explained, I'm a PM on the Office Online team :)
2. This is great. I'm working on supporting different lists than just Nielsen's heuristics (including being able to create your own custom list). Unfortunately the one you linked to is quite long and might be quite lengthy to have in the sidebar. I'll think about that though.

Hi all - I created UX Check as a side project over the past few months and I'm glad that people are finding it to be helpful! There are some awesome suggestions in this thread and I'm already working on a v2, so feel free to keep the ideas coming.

I just finished with a side project. I knew going in that I would lose motivation for reasons left and right, even though it's the right project for me to work on. In order to keep up my motivation, I started "Side Projects Dinner" - I would make dinner for my friends every other week, and they would give me feedback on my project. It worked great, and we've had quite a lot of fun. And of course, my friends are also getting feedback on their own projects and thinking of new project ideas. Highly recommended!

Honestly, yes. I thought that it was some happy ad campaign for Jib Jab and that you were actually giving out free Santa calls. I was just about to share this with so many people, then I got hit with the price. It's not even expensive, but it felt sneaky. And you captured my data. :(
