This looks so promising as a lightweight replacement for Bridge or Photo Mechanic and the interface is great.

Has a lot of opportunity on the actual image rendering and performance side, but will definitely keep up with updates on how it evolves!

Batch photo editors already exist, like the long standing and superb Retrobatch. It’s $30-50 as a one time purchase.

Also, oddly, this post highlights “no subscription” about their project but the App Store page shows several subscriptions and that the app actually costs $40 a year?

Pleasant and responsive lightweight design, but the game itself just has no difficulty to it.

Tried four puzzles and all were done in 15 seconds.

Sure, but also no.

By that reasoning, you might say there's no such thing as bad art. In most cases, things are designed with the best of intentions and may or may not be successful for their audience.

But a standalone ILC is already a small addressable market so the choices do matter, especially for a company of Sigma's size.

So much love and respect for VLC as robust pioneering open source software, but also in 2024, it feels like extremely antiquated and sluggish on a Mac.

While a chargeback is effectively the right move, most large companies have extremely heavy handed responses to it even if it's to correct their error you've made good faith effort to resolve.

As I think someone else mentioned, that would be a no brainer if you had no expectation of every doing business with them again but I wouldn't do that in this case.

There is no product here. The website is so generic and devoid of any detail that it can't be real. It's for foodies and costs "pending $".

Strava has a fairly robust free product and the nominal monthly cost for their premium service seems worth it to those more serious and want the extras. I guess I'm not seeing what you're addressing?

That seems really unlikely. Doesn't the FCC limit the range at which consumer radio products can transmit from their source? So, part of it is a technological limitation of WiFi, but also legal. And long-distance WiFi already exists, isn't that what WiMax was?

I don't think the telecom companies are going to be displaced very soon because the simplicity of never having to choose a network to connect to is just how people think. Continguous and unibiquitous mobile broadband is probably not on the horizon from someone who isn't a large telecom.

The move to unlocked phones though, I think is spot on.

How have they lost? Sparrow doesn't work any less well than it did before the acquisition. This is not a product that relied on a service that has been shut down. It still has the same utility it did before.

I guess my feeling on it is that I paid for an app on Mac on iOS that works fine, has no showstopping bugs and I have more than gotten my money's worth. Sure, push would have been nice on iOS, but to put it bluntly, the Sparrow team don't owe anybody anything. Esecpailly for Mac users, as it was pretty feature complete as is.

Is iPhone on Verizon?

I should have provided some context since this isn't exactly the usual HN subject matter.

Earlier this week, Gap Clothing changed their logo from the old iconic blue box logo to the new one which is essentially another Helvetica wordmark and a box placed in the corner. Mike's post (the main link), which is employing quite a bit of insincerity, assumes you knew about this before hand.

Yep, Apple laptops keep the RAM powered up until the battery level dips down to 20%, then it writes the contents to disk when the machine sleeps. It's called Safesleep and you can tweak this if you'd like by using a utility called Smartsleep.
