Yes, radio found out naming is hard before software did, in very old times there was High Frequency (HF), but then circuits got fast enough to go higher, oops, ok no problem, let's call the new frequencies Very High Frequency (VHF) whew that was close, but wait they got even faster! Ugh! Ok let's call the new frequencies Ultra High Frequency (UHF), but wait, we're still not in the Ghz range yet! Thankfully they did not keep going to Super Super Mega Ultra High Frequency.

In summary, AI has tricked a bunch of philosophy majors into not only thinking it's more than linear algebra but changing their entire life trajectories because of their confusion. AI seems to be a very alluring tar pit for the non-technical. The sad part is how this negative externality of AI is being actively encouraged for political ends.

It's not clear how much of a factor calendar age degradation is in EVs because almost nobody is straightforward about it like they are in the battery industry itself.

PhDs are not immune to buyers remorse. It's just buyers remorse. They are a buyer because of the opportunity cost of getting a PhD. It's economically equivalent to spending money, because the alternative was working as a software developer.

Yes, exactly, as long as you don't fast charge. The ideal scenario for TCO measured as dollars per mile driven should be driving every day until you are down to some threshold, slow charging overnight, and repeating that each day until it's a brick. Should end up with something like 200-300k miles that way.

The battery industry defines calendar age degradation, not a random guy on the Internet like me. It's like saying you can't discuss voltage without me defining what voltage is.

They still die by calendar age based degradation. High miles low years isn't interesting. We know that works well. They don't like talking about the calendar age degradation. Every article like this leaves that part out. It's annoying. Many articles have been written like this. Many more will be written yet. I guess there are still people out there who don't know that EVs are ideal for drivers who accumulate high miles per year. Personally I don't think batteries are going to get interesting until solid state batteries. The problem is the electrolyte.
