I noticed that too so I appended to Claude Code’s system prompt a reminder to use the standard read/write tools, but since Claude Code switched to default auto-mode, I’ve seen it imply that the auto-mode tooling encourages the use of bash-only commands (sed, python, etc) which has a whole slew of negative side affects.

If that isn’t the perfect way to frame what I’ve seen and hated about LLM text, I don’t know what is. They certainly write for an audience with a historical context that almost no one has.

Hey HN, over the past couple of months I've been building kvweb which is a web-based GUI for browsing and editing Valkey/Redis databases. I wanted something like pgweb but for Valkey, and when I dug into the existing options they were either desktop apps, looked pretty dated, or were missing features I cared about. redis-cli is great for quick commands but I wanted something visual for exploring unfamiliar databases. It's a Go backend with a Svelte frontend that compiles down to a single binary, so you just point it at any Valkey or Redis instance and open your browser. AGPL licensed.

Each data type has its own editor: strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets, streams, HyperLogLog, and geo with a map view. You can search keys with glob or regex, filter by type, browse them as a tree, and bulk delete. It auto-detects compressed values (gzip, zstd) and decompresses them for display. Changes show up live via WebSocket keyspace notifications, and there's a built-in command console if you need to run something ad-hoc. Screenshots at kvweb.dev

I’m in the same situation. Zed’s Claude Code is better in terms of control, but it’s wildly buggy and unreliable. Definitely not a drop in replacement.

I’ve been using devenv for about 6 months now. I’ve started new projects with it and migrated old ones to use it as well. I’ve also set up my org’s repositories with it. Onboarding devs to projects is simple. All everyone needs on their local machine is git, nix, and devenv. Bonus points for using it with direnv for automatic shell activation when you enter a directory. Direnv allows for IDE integrations as well for project dependencies.

Secret? It’s the obvious trajectory. The ad industry already monetized our browsing history for its insights into user behavior. Prompt history is even more valuable. It’s a window into someone’s thoughts. When the AI bubble bursts and investors want their money back, selling prompt data to advertisers will be the easy play.
