This isn't even Code but I noticed last night that my fans spin up in my machine every time I open the settings in the claude web interface. I was trying to check my usage and couldn't figure out why my computer would be spinning fans up, closed it again it stopped, opened again spinning up fans. So even the website is buggy crap.

lol wow yours must have weapons mounted to them or some sort of portal they take the bad folks in or something. It's crazy "liberty is not essential" but then to someone suggest that the safety is permanent because people :O would be ON CAMERA doing something! Pretty wild to see someone so empty headed on HN.

What a great way for google to make it easy for people to switch to Cursor! I always have issues switching IDEs because I get used to the flow in one but if the flow just disappears out of thin air then what's holding me back? (Nothing)

That's interesting! Gemini has definitely been less sycophantic than GPT but I haven't had it push back unless we were already arguing about something. Claude is the only one I can go to with "I have this great idea for a cool thing that I can make that I think will go hard on the market" (or whatever I've never had this conversation with it lol but similar) and it'll knock me off my high horse quickly.

Oh I definitely understand that but if you talk to any of those models through the chat interface, they'll speak as if they're one. I once asked it a question about "Which model was I talking to when I asked this?" because it can look back at previous conversations and it answer questions about them. It's answer was "You were talking to me, Claude." then proceeded to basically explain what you're saying. For what it's worth, I've been a developer and working with LLMs for the better part of the last 5 years or so. I'm no expert and I appreciate the clarification for anyone who may not be aware!
I'll say though, I haven't tried the weakest model of Anthropic's but Opus and Sonnet will both push back more than I've seen another LLM do so. GPT was always trying to please me and Gemini was goofy. I'm surprised Gemini was the one that pushed back honestly!

Before subscribing to Claude, I put $15 into my account so I could use it from Cline in VS Code. After less than a few hours I was out of money. This was basically just to get a simple project setup and a few 1000~ line (AI generated) code files edited. I have heard Cline is less ideal with token management but regardless, these services can easily cost us hundreds or thousands of dollars a month billed on usage. ($15x4hoursx2 for a work day = $30, $30x25 = $750). And that is assuming my very light usage here could even apply to a larger code base. My guess would be if I hooked it up to an enterprise project it'd skyrocket easily to $60+/day.

I once was about 30-50ft from where lightning struck, standing on my porch looking towards my neighbors' house. I didn't see the actual strike happen but I did feel my hair stand on end and then see basically this coming off of the leaves reaching up towards the sky. Little purple tentacles all reaching upwards.
But then I got to the point in the article where they seemed to explain this wasn't visible to the naked eye.... What did I see?

I ended up adding a "NEVER REMOVE LOGGING OR DEBUGGING INFO, OPT TO ADD MORE OF IT" to my user instructions and that has _somewhat_ fixed the problem but introduced a new problem where, no matter what I'm talking to it about, it tries to add logging. Even if it's not a code problem. I've had it explain that I could setup an ESP32 with a sensor so that I could get logging from it then write me firmware for it.

I liked using it like this but my problem is that it wouldn't reliably respond to commands while music was playing. There were times I had to unplug it to get music to stop. And other times I'd want a song with an explicit word in the name and it'd pretend it didn't exist.. like wtf I'm an adult in my own house I think you can manage to play the song I asked for whether or not it has a big mean curse word in it.

Curious. Are you just a good guy whos tired of the way the world is? What's in this for you? This seems like a cool thing to do but I feel like "I will never sell the platform" should be taken with a grain of salt. How long-term are you intending for this to run? How long has it currently run? What is your uptime?
I'm not meaning to grill you here. These are just the questions I had reading through the page. Will I take my blog here and then have it just disappear in a month?
Thank you for your time and thank you for contributing something like this to the world! We need more "things so things can exist" and less "Things so I can have money" so big kudos from me!
