Hi HN, there is something that's been bugging me for some time. I choose to follow specific people on social media because I want to see their posts but at the end of the day, an ever-changing algorithm decides what I see. I get the feeling of being pushed into things rather than pulling in the things I want.
The solution I came up with is a new social media format to stay up to date: a chronological, continuous queue for each person you follow where it continues from where you left off. This means that as a creator, you get a direct channel to your followers, and as a follower, you can stay in touch with specific people, ideas, and interests on your own terms without letting some algorithm get in the way.
If you're reading this, I think you'll enjoy following @hn500 that lets you follow all HN posts that reach 500 points, or any of the following accounts: @hn, @hn20, @hn50, @hn100, @hn150, @hn200, @hn250, and @hn300.
I'd love hear what you think!

I lift weight 3 times a week an hour each day. Look into Starting Strength, 5x5, or any simple programs that focus on progressive overloading. I got to 405 lbs squat and deadlift at 170 lbs bodyweight this way. Measure your progress similar to how you measure your metrics in a startup

Thanks for sharing.
For those who haven't tried, Google Play Books is really good. It's free, cross-platform (plus web), you can upload epub, and syncs annotations across devices.
I switched from jailbroken Kindle to android e-ink device 3 years ago and I haven't looked back. It's the perfect combo.
Tip: Use Calibre to organize/backup your books and convert to epub

This comment reminds me of Status as a Service by Eugene Wei.
"Some people find status games distasteful. Despite this, everyone I know is engaged in multiple status games. Some people sneer at people hashtag spamming on Instagram, but then retweet praise on Twitter. Others roll their eyes at photo albums of expensive meals on Facebook but then submit research papers to prestigious journals in the hopes of being published. Parents show off photos of their children performances at recitals, people preen in the mirror while assessing their outfits, employees flex on their peers in meetings, entrepreneurs complain about 30 under 30 lists while wishing to be on them, reporters check the Techmeme leaderboards; life is nothing if not a nested series of status contests."
