As a client you can hit a server as much and as often as you like. The only thing the server can do is return an error code or try to hold the socket open (which the client can then close on their own).

if you can't stand AI and it's making your life miserable maybe you're in a simulation created by an advanced AI and being punished for not being pro-ai when you were actually alive as a warning to others.

I live in DFW Texas, use to be when you heard the tornado sirens you hit the deck. Now they go off, not kidding, for pingpong ball hail and “high winds”. That’s basically 1 out of every 4-5 spring/summer thunderstorms.

Yeah COVID really showed the darker side of HN. It was madness and still sticks out in my mind. Any question that didn't toe the line was shouted down from all sides. Don't forget Youtube was even censoring content then. It was a mess.

The Texas grid is largely independent of the national grid. Abbott wants an audit to ensure data center plans comply with the rules. "Any project that fails to comply with the requirements set forth by the PUCT and ERCOT, and by state law, must be denied connection to the Texas grid. Simply put, Texans must come first."

It's not a pro or anti business stance it's just a deal-is-a-deal stance.

they want to, hence all the natural gas turbines. However, and this is pretty funny, you don't just order those using doordash or turn up a knob like on AWS. It takes years, if not decades, for those things to get manufactured, delivered, installed, and on line. He who shall not be be named here mentioned in a interview how all these software guys are going to get painful lesson in hardware when they start trying to build behind the meter power generation.

nation states trying to slow progress. I was pretty perplexed as well, now we're concerned about data centers? They're everywhere already.

Oh wait, it's a FUD campaign sewn by competing nations using social media so they can, hopefully, catch up. That makes a lot more sense.

Nothing has been taken from you. If writing software brings you joy then write software. Or do you mean a path to riches and elite exclusivity you have in your head has been taken from you? The hard fact is you’re just not that important. It’s a bitter pill and we all have to deal with it at some point.

That’s what I do. Sensible firewall rules with ufw, turn off services I don’t use, follow the docs for the services I do. For a handful of servers the maintenance overhead is fine.

One of my friends (and BIL) own an architecture firm. They use AI to generate and quickly update renderings but they run into the equivalent of the 6 fingered hand problem. I sent him this article I wonder if the updated models can catch and fix mistakes made by previous models.
