I am sympathetic to your analogy. I think it works well enough.
But it falls a bit short in that encyclopedias, lossy or not, shouldn't affirmatively contain false information. The way I would picture a lossy encyclopedia is that it can misdirect by omission, but it would not change A to ¬A.
Maybe a truthy-roulette enclyclopedia?

I am not sure I would rely on observations of gyms and beaches for whether people are healthier for fear of selection bias. Going to the beach and seeing mostly fit bathers is like going to the hospital and seeing mostly sick people and thinking that can be generalized to society.
Why would you ask old people if young people are healthier than they were? Surely, Spain compiles medical statistics.
Anyway, Spain appears to have the same weight issues as everywhere else:
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9105543/

This is seriously the thing I like the most about my 2017 and 2023 macbooks. The trackpad feels so good. Every other manufacturer that I have tried, and no it is not all of them but a lot, they all make my fingers feel bad after using them. I don't know if they are rougher or textured somehow? The only one that does make my finger pads feel sore is the macbook.

That is an interesting question: do people generally care about the survival of the species?
I am not actually sure I wouldn't take the bet against you there. Given what I perceive about how little people care about wars that they think do not affect them, poverty, hunger, climate change, corruption, sustainability, etc ... I don't know.
I believe 95% of people would say they care about humanity's survival, sure, but the proof would be in action. How many people would actually do something about it? How many people would even merely inconvenience themselves if it meant the survival of someone other than themselves? I am not that confident about how many people that would be.
I do not usually think of myself as a pessimistic or nihilistic person, but this has me wondering even now whether I care about the long-term survival of the species. Like, really long term. Do I care if humans are around 10,000 years from now? 500? That is an interesting question. I will have to think about it.

What are the financial reasons for governments to want mass surveillance? I can understand some other reasons, which I think are illegitimate, but I cannot think of a financial reason.
At any rate, governments are all made of people who are also tracked at all times. Just because some parts of government would like mass surveillance, why would legislators who can do something about it be okay with having their car be constantly monitored by private parties or the police or anyone?
Why would legislators, donors, and lobbyists be okay with their own location data (and in some extreme cases like with Nissan their "sexual behaviors" etc) being sold to data brokers, for example?
