Sterile insect releases are a tool for suppressing populations and have been used for about a century. This is not really a new suppression technique but a novel way of producing the sterile insects.

It has been used to suppress screw worm in the United States for decades until the administration cut the funding.

These are almost always a temporary solution that need constant funding and seasonal releases to work. The populations will surge back as soon as it's stopped.

I’ve been on a SSRI for 5 years and not once have I thought about getting off of it. It literally saved my life.

I remember a while life of depression and constant churn of recursive emotions destroying me.

I’m worried that too many people are downplaying the benefits that this drug for those of us that it has helped immensely. And it’s extra risky to be downplaying it while RFK jr is actively working to remove the drugs from the market.

Actually, I’m a little worried by what this post demonstrates but not the logo or the use of the api.

I’m worried that switching apps and screenshots _doesn’t_ put the logo in. If the point of the switch is privacy, isn’t that a bug? Shouldn’t it apply the privacy screen during any screenshot? What if there was sensitive information on there when you were switching and taking the screenshot?

Parts of the world are literally on fire but the US is redirecting money to halt renewables and towards gas.

The demand for energy is higher than ever due to AI data centers, but I guess the next model is more important than a habitable environment.

I believe it’s mostly due to closeness to the work and actually turning the problem over in my mind. When I use an LLM to code much of the context is lost and my understanding of the solution is diminished. The longer I use it in a code base the less and less aware of the code base I become.

This is also born out in the research which has demonstrated reduced retention of content when authoring was facilitated by an LLM. Over the long term, I believe this is widen a chasm between experienced and inexperienced engineers.

While not all CEOs will feel this way, it will not surprise me that knowledge workers will be treated as disposable, even if their work is invaluable. If they can hire a junior escort for the AI they will. That junior will also be scale goated when things go wrong.
