Perhaps we have 100 years to spread consciousness to space before civilisation is devastated by demographic collapse or nuclear war or some horrible virus or islam.

99.9% of species that have existed on earth are already extinct. Climate change happens constantly over long periods. Our CO2 emissions will be background noise on a million year timescale.

anesthesiologist here, I really fear a dodgy epidural being used for caesarean section surgical anaesthesia, and if there is any hint that an epidural isnt perfect I pull it out and do a spinal anaesthetic (as long as I have time eg. If the baby can wait long enough). Its a big call which needs to be made quickly. I have a theory that modern epidural medication mix has been dropped to be so low concentration of active drug that it is harder to differentiate a good epidural from a patchy one, and as a result people are topping up patchy epidurals and then running into problems with pain during surgery.

Looks like an array of ultrasound probes which is fine.. how does this deal with bone obstructing windows? the example with an abdo is feasible and fine but you cant do that with brain or easily with heart /lungs

The vision for the future elon gives us (exploring the stars, human augmentation, advanced AI likely leading to elimination of suffering) is a heaven-like vision in a western world where most people don’t believe in anything much, and many of our leaders and intellectuals are misanthropes who think having kids is selfish.

I wish someone would do a large RCT of water fluoridation in pregnant women looking at long term cognitive outcomes if fetuses. It would be an easy study to do (just randomize each group to receive free deliveries of either fluoridated or not fluoridated water) and then look at their offspring’s scores on cognitive tests every few years. I think reputable scientists don’t touch this because they’re afraid of being labelled kooky.

Imagine if there was a gold which could be transferred across borders easily and completely securely within seconds, proof of holdings and ownership could be easily proven, and there was no future risk of gold supply shocks (eg gold asteroid hitting earth or alchemy becomes viable).

An excellent use case for this is ethereum smart contract verification. People store millions of dollars in smart contracts that are probably a one or two iterations of claude or gemini away from being pwned.
