For me this all copyright / license topic is non sense, that's why I don't even bother adding a license to my projects, some years ago I used to add MIT licenses when requested, however these days I just ignore those requests, they can use it or not, but I'm not doing any effort to fulfill these copyright / license claims.

I agree with the idea the post is trying to do but not with the justifications, I think it's wrong to compare Kubernetes vs rsync or ansible, it resolves a different problem, container cluster management, a more appropriate comparison would had been to compare with simpler solutions in the same domain, such as docker swarm or nomad.

You shouldn't use hash functions designed for integrity, they're fast, fast is bad for password hashing, a single AMD graphics card can compute 200M guesses per second for single sha-512 iterations, instead use bcrypt, scrypr or any other hash function specifically designed for key stretching.
https://hashcat.net/hashcat/
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_stretching

I'm fortunate to only depend on a single platform, Linux in my case, so I rent a 1TB vps[0] to whom I rsync[1] every day . Then depending on the criticality of the service I'm backing up I create weekly/daily/monthly snapshots (rdiff-backup). I encrypt sensitive data using symmetric aes 256 (gpg).
[0] https://www.time4vps.eu/
[1] http://javier.io/blog/en/2014/04/08/backups-git-rsync-rdiff-...

It highly depends on the zone, in Mexico City surroundings you could get or build a house for probably USD 100k+, in downtown it could easily be 500k for a full house or 200k for a department flat. It could sound cheap but the average salary is low too, so you can easily be in dept for the next 25-30 years. Many people buy or build outside of the border city and spend 3-4 hours everyday commuting. In general, I think people try really hard (sometimes during its whole life) to buy/build its own but I don't see that happening much longer, specially for young people who start working at an older age and has additional aspirations.
