the expensive bit of serving big websites is the ads, the tracking, the analytics, the vast internal teams focused on endless avb testing etc. if you boil Wikipedia down it's mostly static pages with a crud editor. it's cached to the moon and back, most pages don't change. the pages are tiny. they're not paying aws for bandwidth.

A tracker thing for my son's in their first year. tracks sleep, food, awake, poos. easy hand off between me and their mum so we know when it's time for a nap or feed etc. got a cool radial data Viz where easy ring is 24h and the rings stack up. let's you see sleep patterns really easily. sorry no demo or screens as the data is all private and there's no security on there!

I'm currently setting up a small coding assessment for recruitment purposes at my company. I think in 2023 it's not reasonable to restrict the usage of tools like gpt4 or copilot. I wonder how advent of code will enforce this?

The pill can have pretty severe mental health impacts on women. I think as long as these are clearly signposted so that women know what they might be getting themselves into, then fair enough. Also tons of other side effects, some of which are pretty severe if taken in combination with the correct (eg most unlucky) underlying health issues.

One quite important issue is the border. English and Scottish people will almost certainly never tolerate any kind of friction at that border. We've been moving across it seamlessly for centuries, families are mixed, businesses straddle the border, etc. If the Northern Ireland debacle has shown us anything, it's if Scotland were to leave and then join the EU that border would become an absolute political nightmare. The EU has an absolutist position on border integrity, but locals have an absolutist position of border porosity. I don't think there's a compromise that both sides could tolerate.

those were the days! I was really productive in that mode, although the quality of output was 1/10 at best. Buggy, insecure, etc. Don't even talk about maintainability! But, but! You got it done real fast and most of the time for some random website that doesnt handle money, who cares?
