This is something I've thought as well, an easy example would be abortion - one group thinks that abortion is literally murdering a child, another thinks that it's an inalienable right that a woman has to preform any operation to her own body. There's no way to make both these people happy at the same time.
There are a lot of logistic issues, though, I doubt this will ever happen.

The mitigating circumstances are the un-nessicary stress and responsibilities of dealing with anyone who doesn't 100% agree with what you're saying. Unfortunately these are pervasive on pretty much any platform you are on, so there's no good way around it.

I just looked through the headers of a request to google.com, expecting this to be wrong, but it does look like this is there! Right at the bottom, x-client-data. The value ends with == which makes me think it's some kind of hash. Crazy. It does not exist when I use ungoogled chromium, firefox, or even edge.

Those are for people who are specifically not here legally and therefore don't recieve the full protection of our constitution and laws. While I vehemently disagree with these camps, there's no reason to assume a re-born America's laws would apply to people who are not citizens/legally accepted into its borders. A fix for these camps would be to guarantee the same protections we Americans enjoy to people who come here illegally, which can be accomplished using the current framework we have today.

>but the more I've thought about it over the years, the more I've realized there's almost no aspect of American life worth preserving
There is so much about America that is worth preserving. One easy example right off the top of my head is the law and culture that enables people to peacefully demonstrate like they are today. Even discussing the idea of doing this in many countries could get you killed - or worse! That's another amazing thing (again, just off the top of my head), in America the worst punishment we have is death, and even that is outlawed in many places. The idea of an internment camp[0][1] is not even considered.
[0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xinjiang_re-education_camps
[1] https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2019/9/17/20861427/india-...

A while back I got diagnosed with carpal and cubital tunnel. After many, many hours of research, I eventually bought a Quefrency from Keebio (https://keeb.io/pages/assembly-service has the premade ones) to see if it would help. I can now confidently say, if you are worried about getting CT, or you have it and want something easier on your hands, you _need_ to check this out. Seriously, for most people on here an injury like CT can make you lose your job. The split form factor really helps alleviate the pain. Not bending your wrists or elbows helps way more than you can imagine. Even now my hands will still hurt if I use a regular keyboard but I can type on my split board all day long. The Quefrency also has the advantage of not being a different form factor (like the Dactyl), it's just a standard 60% split staggered layout (the smaller form factor helps reduce finger travel as well, but imo it's mostly the split). Plus, it just runs off a pro micro so you can flash your own firmware very easily (it runs on QMK which is open source)
I've also heard good things about the levinson and nyquist but I haven't personally tested them. I have also used an Iris for a while and like it a lot, but it looks like they're backordered for now. The viterbi looks a little big imho, but if you want a big split board it would definitely be a good option.
I actually am somewhat in the keyboard business right now (I got inspired by how well it worked, and it's really fun!), if anyone has any questions or needs some recommendations feel free to AMA.
BTW, if you end up going with a different form factor, be ready to type at 10-20WPM for at least a week or two. When I got my first ortho board, I typed at 13WPM and gained back roughly 5-10WPM a week. You can't use a standard layout while you learn, either, or you lose a ton of the muscle memory.

Day 2 may have been a lot better as store owners started to take matters into their own hands. We only saw the first day, which many people were unprepared for. A lot less people would be willing to loot if they had a friend who died after getting shot by a store owner with a shotgun. Not that this is really any better, I'm just trying to say that we can't really reach any conclusions from one day of this experiment

Private security guards can't use the word police on their uniforms. I looked it up a while ago (I asked the exact same question you did) - IIRC the rule is that you are only allowed to use it if you aren't issuing any orders and there isn't an unrelated reason for people to think you are an official officer. If you see the word police they are either someone pretending to be an officer (and must follow the rule I just wrote) or a real police officer.
In many cities (including mine, which has a lot of private security) the word POLICE is written in all caps and large letters on the back and front of their shirts. It's hard to make the distinction until you see them once, then it's pretty clear

I'm not sure why but I haven't been able to pass any captcha I've been served in the last 2-3 days. It just keeps giving me images to solve and eventually will say that I failed and need to start over. When I click the audio button (my normal workaround), it says that my computer is sending automated queries and that I can't be verified right now.
I'm using a regular residential IP, chrome, I'm signed into my 10+ year old google account, and haven't been doing anything nefarious. Other than adblock and decentraleyes I don't have any anti-tracking. I honestly have no idea what to do, 80% of the sites I visit won't even let me in, and I can't login to any of my accounts. Even my bank isn't letting me login to pay my bills, which is really frustrating. I had to call them to get them to send me a paper bill and ask for an extension. Luckily they were understanding (apparently I wasn't the first to call - did google change something recently?).

I agree with everything you're saying and every single point you're trying to make here, but, as someone who's been on the other end, your responses are exactly why people hate posting about this stuff publicly. He doesn't have the authority to speak on it (alone) but you trapped him into accidently saying something he wasn't trying to say (in fact he only said it to be nice and reply to your question - which he had no obligation to even acknowledge). There was nothing he could have said that would have made you (or me or any of us on HN) happy, no information he was allowed to give out, but on his own volition he chose to respond to and validate your questions, and you reacted by saying "Aha! I got you now!"
That said, it seems likely to me that if this somehow stopped advertising revenue, it would have been fixed before HN even noticed. "No way to fix it for at least a few days" seems very untrue, that department just isn't lead by someone who cares enough about this issue to make it happen. It's not the tweeter's fault, though.

To flip this on its head, would you argue that the people working to secure the Nazi's torture camp computers were being the good guys?
