0% chance this is true as I work at a F500 where I can assure you that probably every developer can write fizz buzz.
I would bet my life and everyone I care abouts' lives that much more than 70% CAN write fizz buzz.

Yes. If you're copy posting code from LLMs you're in the minority of people who are "in the past". Most people are generating most of their code in ~1-200 LOC chunks, reviewing it, adjusting as needed (usually with another prompt) and then opening a PR, which gets reviewed both my LLM and other teammates.

And therefore there will be a huge knowledge gap as companies refuse to hire anyone who hasn't worked in the field for 5+ years and people who want to work in that field but haven't don't get hired.

It's becoming increasingly clear to me that - at least right now - AI is only useful for 2 things:
1. Coding, with it being more useful the better you are at coding without AI
2. Any expert in their field asking questions about their field, who bother to fact check the output. E.g. "claude pls search these 1000 files and tell me if you find anywhere that they're discussing the settlement" and then the user checks the files/line numbers to make sure that it's correct - basically a turbocharged search that may have false negatives (content existed but I didn't find it) or false positives (content that I classified in a certain way but it was wrong). It takes an expert to tell the latter one in some cases.

Well, nobody said lifers. But you can't really get a management job without already having management experience. You typically have to be promoted internally, not just go look for a management job elsewhere with no experience.

unless we can ALL join forces to draw the line somewhere, someone will choose to defect from the agreement to "just work less",
> We already did draw the line and we can redraw it. We drew the line very strongly at 40 hours, 4 days a week. That is the "official" expected hours for most salaried employees.
because doing so will make them succeed at the expense of others.
> This already happens. People making salary, 40 hours, that work 50, 60, etc. to get ahead of their coworkers in a career sense. Or people taking optional overtime to get ahead financially or people who work hourly working extra hours or people who have 2+ jobs or a side hustle.
even if everyone from one country agrees, the other competing country that defects and works 996 with agents will "win" and conquer the lazy country.
> Didn't realize Japan is imminently going to conquer the US because they work more hours.

How are neither of them being driven by capitalism?
U.S. becomes more authoritarian -> you are more afraid of being targeted by an AI drone and mass surveillance -> companies that make those weapons of war for the government (prime contractors) make billions -> they use their money to influence politics and public opinion -> U.S. becomes more authoritarian -> etc.

This would just hurt new users similar to how you are unable to comment on 90% of subreddits on Reddit as a new user, because you don't have enough karma points, or how on Stackoverflow your permissions are severely limited until you do certain jobs. The incentives aren't very good in systems like this. Bots can be made to easily game the system while regular users are discouraged from even participating.
