I looked up onions, lettuce and tomatoes (because burgers), and the volatility actually looks very similar. Am I missing something or looking at the wrong things?

In an onion related note... is the "I sell onions on the internet" guy still around? I believe he was selling Vidalia onions.

Ask HN: What is Y Combinator's position on Flock's standing today?

chirau — Sun, 13 Sep 2026 15:20:10 +0000

I know they funded them and all, things change/don't. Curious to know if they maintain their original stance and what it was if so.

Are you sure they were using "chat" to refer to ChatGPT? I have noticed many kids now use chat to refer to the collective audience/chat participants, and then gets used rhetorically even when no literal chatroom exists. A streamer says things like “Chat, what do you think?” or “Chat, are we cooked?” That usage has spread well beyond literal livestream chats, particularly among younger people.

Ask HN: How do I make sure ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini forget all prior conversations?

chirau — Sun, 30 Aug 2026 13:25:22 +0000

I am referring to the regular chat, not the API. I want to make sure that every time I start a new chat, it is a completely clean slate with no recall from other chats. I have tried turning off memory, I have also tried prompting it to forget everything, which it claims it has done but hasn't.

Later in the conversation I will see something like, "Given your expertise in..." or "This ties in nicely with your ...", things that it would only know from prior chats.

"No app uses PayPal"

You have already lost your plot with that claim. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean it is not widespread.

Decoys. Have them celebrate the win while doing other stuff. It is the same tactic used by cartels. They have small time mules run around vulnerable on interstates and getting caught by cops to occupy their time while they move larger loads conspicuosly.

New comment by chirau in "Oldinsurancemaps.net is now a Charter Project"

chirau — Wed, 26 Aug 2026 10:50:48 +0000

On visiting the actual oldinsurancemaps.net, I was met with:

"OldInsuranceMaps.net is a Charter Project of OpenStreetMap US that provides an open, online workflow for creating georeferenced layers of historical maps, with a special focus on making seamless mosaics from multi-page atlases in the Sanborn map collection at the Library of Congress."

What the hell does that mean? Anyone to ELI5?

I think that would make her very good at learning (not the things she is learning) and that is why she talks about things from a learning perspective. That would qualify her for the other commentor's bar.
