Hi HN, I've been working on an open-source, Electron (sorry) app for creating Game Boy games with no-code for a few years now. Recently I've been making some improvements to the inbuilt music editor/tracker and have got it running in the browser as a PWA.
https://www.gbstudio.dev/music
https://music.gbstudio.dev/
It runs entirely client-side (no backend), using the File System Access API where available, and works offline.
The file format is that same as in https://superdisk.github.io/hUGETracker/ so you can take any files made with this and edit them with hUGETracker instead.
And then you can drop these into a GB Studio project to make a quick GameBoy ROM too.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Very nice! I've been building a drag & drop layer on top of GBDK [1] called GB Studio [2] for making Game Boy games for a few years now. I'm starting to think about how it could support other platforms eventually so this is definitely a project I'll keep an eye on.
[1] https://gbdk.org/
[2] https://www.gbstudio.dev/

I’ll definitely have a look and see if there’s any advantages. Currently using binjgb in GB Studio and been pretty happy with it https://github.com/binji/binjgb

Nice to see GB Studio get a mention, I’m still working away at it after many years! Definitely going to be checking out NESFab to see what I can learn from it.
There’s also been a fork recently called BB Studio adapting it to make NES games:
https://github.com/michel-iwaniec/bb-studio

Thanks, one of the things I’ve always tried to do (at work, before I started on GB Studio) is make difficult things seem easy and accessible. Though I’d have also told you this was probably impossible before starting too!
I just built it up slowly, making small tools to help me make sense of what was going on while learning GBDK, before I knew it pretty much had something I could package up. I’ve had a lot of help along the way though, untoxa’s [0] engine rewrite, and the work pau-tomas [1] did on the music editor have been especially helpful to the project.
Been a bit absent from the community recently, not had the time, but hoping to get back on it again soon!
I’m always amazed at how many awesome games people keep making though, it makes me really happy as this the first of many failed side projects that I pushed on through to completion.
[0] https://github.com/untoxa
[1] https://github.com/pau-tomas

If anyone is interested in making their own Game Boy game, I've been working on an open source game maker [0] that adds a UI around GBDK. I'm working on an updated replacement game engine [1] at the moment too that adds, among other things, support for flash cartridge saving (allows you to reflash cheap Pokémon carts), parallax backgrounds, large sprites and a stack based scripting language.
[0] https://www.gbstudio.dev/
[1] https://github.com/chrismaltby/gbvm

I can second that, I’ve just recently started migrating my open source application [0] to use Redux Toolkit and the hooks API (+Typescript) and it’s been a pleasure to use and MUCH less boilerplate than the previous implementation. Thanks for your efforts working on this!
[0] https://github.com/chrismaltby/gb-studio/tree/v2beta

Hi, sorry for the delay replying, weirdly Electron names the output win32-x64 even though it's only for 64-bit, I think the naming convention is platform (win32) then architecture (x64). Either way I've just built a 32-bit version which hopefully will work for you https://github.com/chrismaltby/gb-studio/releases/download/v... though I'm not sure how it's going to manage with 1Gb RAM.
