New comment by chronicsonic in "Firefox Developer Edition and Beta: Try Out Mozilla's .deb Package"

chronicsonic — Fri, 01 Dec 2023 04:48:11 +0000

All the popular ones are all Mozilla monitored, so I don’t agree that pretty much all of them aren’t.

Personally I don’t touch unmonitored addons anyway. There have been incidents of developers selling their Addon to some dodgy buyers who then started abusing it.

Being disabled scripts like these really help me, I can’t sit behind a computer as much as I could before, but it’s still my main hobby.

I do a quick look over of the source to make sure it’s ok. It saves me so much time and pain.

Yes it also supports Firefox extensions. Bypass Paywall Clean is a great one.

Fair point, but so should the user.

This is a good reminder to everyone: Your cloud data still needs backing up.

New comment by chronicsonic in "Ask HN: What was the outcome of Reddit blackout?"

chronicsonic — Mon, 27 Nov 2023 00:29:30 +0000

Yeah and a lot of the Ask posts are dominating and seem like bot posts by being a single simple questions.

New comment by chronicsonic in "Is there an updated list for verified good USB-C cables?"

chronicsonic — Sun, 26 Nov 2023 16:37:39 +0000

Yeah make sure the cable is USB-IF certified, you can find the list here (don’t trust Amazon product descriptions):

https://www.usb.org/products

About USB-IF:

“USB Implementers Forum, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded by the group of companies that developed the Universal Serial Bus specification. The USB-IF was formed to provide a support organization and forum for the advancement and adoption of Universal Serial Bus technology. The Forum facilitates the development of high-quality compatible USB peripherals (devices), and promotes the benefits of USB and the quality of products that have passed compliance testing.”

This unfortunately already exist in europe. Young drivers can get a black box installed in return for a discount on their insurance. This is because those costs for young drivers can be astronomical.

I would never trust a private for profit company with this much data.

New comment by chronicsonic in "We have decided to pause driverless operations across all of our fleets"

chronicsonic — Fri, 27 Oct 2023 11:01:28 +0000

Not just traditional car makers though. Didn’t Tesla do something similar by removing radar (against engineers advice) to decrease cost and thereby making self-driving much more unreliable and difficult?

New comment by chronicsonic in "Effect of fluoridated water on intelligence in 10-12-year-old school children"

chronicsonic — Wed, 04 Oct 2023 14:23:00 +0000

“Water was collected from initially identified endemic fluoride regions according to the geological research of Government of India. “

Wonder why those areas were so fluoride endemic? First thought is factory waste running off into rivers?

That’s why the IKEA 365+ glass containers are the bees knees for freezing and microwaving your food.

That’s why I like the Saveitforparts YouTube Channel. He’s the antimatter of those slick YouTube build channels, where everything is perfect.

Just a laid-back bloke building stuff in his garage, without giving a shit what other people might think about it.

New comment by chronicsonic in "UK Parliament passes Online Safety Bill"

chronicsonic — Wed, 20 Sep 2023 16:40:03 +0000

Thank you for wording that so well, that’s exactly how I feel about the situation.

Unfortunately we’re having our own problems here in Scotland (i.e. poverty, economy, low births, alcohol/drugs deaths). But I do now feel like we should drop our anchor that is England. The population is too polite to revolt and voluntarily mind controlled by a rotten press.

It’s a shame, being from the EU, I always looked up to Britain. Now while living here, I’m just astonished that people just accept or don’t care that Britain is going backwards. Westminster is a clown show.

We’re speed running towards a bleak future.

Alan Moore’s battles with them are well known. Corporate America sucked him dry and his hatred for them turned him into a Wizard.

Cool! I had a tour a few months ago at this Telescope in Dwingeloo. Highly recommended, was amazing to hear the live sound of a pulsar (in the Crab Nebula).
