I have always dreamed about operating an excavator and learning to do so well. I am not sure if it was a midlife crisis or what but I ended up buying a Chinese 2 ton excavator. I live in the suburbs but when I just want to clear my head I go in the backyard and play around with it. My skills have improved a little but nothing like putting 140 hours on a project good. The one I got was about the same as a U17 but less than half the price.

They have so many support vessels and they have a shadow ship there were plenty of resources to help out safely.

How much you spend on something does have an indication on what the utility is for you. Though people spent on all the other hype things so at the time those things also had some utility for that user.

It will. We saw this a lot with tvs, appliances, etc that are now manufactured where it is a lot less money and now they cost a lot less money.

I don't think people realize how much evening out society will impact them. This is a very US (and probably EU) way of thinking. Everyone thinks they are middle class but when it comes down to it there are far more people in poverty and that evening things out will bring down the quality of life for the people advocating for evening out things.

With this much money involved, can the US just build up NASA to do launches? The money of the people should be put towards things owned by the people. Using the rural internet money to make a starlink alternative would be great and I am sure the military would like in on that as well. That is hundreds of billions that could be spent.

AI doesn't suffer the same fate because the customer can input that feedback in near realtime. I built a very quick database site for my car club to track a car meet we had. Registrations, Money, Cars coming, hotels, t-shirts. It was probably a mess of code. It worked though and didn't take long to get setup. This would never have been an app and would have been done with spreadsheets if we had to pay a developer for a month to get things right.

There are a lot of simple web apps out there that haven't been built because of the cost and many more that have been built but cost a lot to maintain. AI seems to work on those and fill in a pretty large space.

Even at zero dollars and a billion dollars they feel rare. Honestly I am surprised how many tech people still work for Facebooks and Googles of the world when they actively have used their platforms against most of their values. These are skilled people that can still make a living elsewhere.

The number one indicator of people caring about climate change is diet for me. If you still are eating meat every meal you probably don't care that much about climate change in my opinion. It is an easy thing to cut out and makes a big impact yet most still won't do it

If datacenters are no longer in the US wouldn't another country just take on the demand for them? Seems like the US would want data sovereignty.

I have lived in both. I agree with this. Suburbs don't mean car dependent, long commutes, or void of food. It is more about where you pick your place to live. I live across from a grocery store, on a main transit line and in the suburbs.

The other thing I don't get is the food argument. Do people really eat out all the time? When I travel for work I have weeks where I have to eat out and my body is yelling at me by the time I am back home. It feels like restaurants dump whole salt shakers in their meals.

So if the company doesn't sign a contract that they will hire union labor they are free to hire whoever they want? I wonder how this will work with IT since there seems to be an abundance of labor and still decent salaries being offered.
