this whole discussion seems pedantic.
whether it is a local function or a remote function, both caller and callee need to agree on the parameters (input), and returns (output).
I send you X. You send me back Y. That's it - this is the contract we both agree to.
OP is saying - the caller should NEVER do anything with Y other than display it on screen, for it to be called REST. Well - why even display it, why not just discard it ? Calling print(Y) is as good as calling businesslogic(Y). Whatever further logic a human plans to do after print(Y), a machine can do the same.
In other words, REST is just step 1 of returning data from a remote function. The moment you code any additional logic on the returned data (which is 99% of use cases), it's not REST anymore ? Sounds like an extremely limited definition /use case of REST.

My strict rule : Never write/store documentation that is separate from underlying 0s & 1s. It always goes out of sync.
We are currently in the process of creating a data dictionary for our company.
I put down a rule that we are not ever going to create a SEPARATE WordDoc/Wiki/Evernote/GenZ-tool.
If it is code, document its meaning (english explanation for laymen) in the doc string.
If it is data, document its meaning in the column's metadata (all database systems provide a property/comment/description capability at table & column level).
If it requires complex diagrams, put these in whatever files (doc/image/pdf/mp3), store it as a blob in a database and create a link it in original code comments/column metadata.
All this data is then constantly pulled into some data-mart on top of which a query-able UI is created.
Every documentation must be literally "Tied" to actual systems making money for the company.
If a new code/data is created or updated, and it's missing documentation, PR is not approved.
Once the basic technical setup of tying code/data with comments/metadata is done, enforcing this rule of updating documentation is the job of management/CTO culture.

I never understood the fascination people have with self-referential 'paradoxes' like : "This statement is False".
Pronouns do not have an independent existence.
Until the pronoun 'This' resolves to an actual statement which has a valid true/false property, it is a recurrence without termination i.e. a infinite loop, that has no meaning.
Suppose I say:
1. Sky is blue.
2. Previous statement is True.
3. Previous statement is True.
And ask you 'Is Statement 3 is True or False?'. You would say 'First I need to know what 'previous' refers to', so you would do pronoun substitution for the word 'Previous' in Statement 3:
3. 'Previous statement is True' is True.
Since this statement has an unresolved pronoun, you would do pronoun substitution for the word 'Previous' in Statement 2:
3. ''Sky is blue' statement is True' is True.
Since there are no more unresolved pronouns, you would evaluate the statement 'Sky is blue', and then the next Statement 2, and finally Statement 3, and say 'Yes, Statement 3 is True'. So far, so good ?
Now, suppose I say:
1. This statement is False.
And ask you 'Is Statement 1 True or False?'. You would say 'First I need to know what 'This' refers to', so you would do pronoun substitution for the word 'This' in Statement 1:
1. 'This statement is False' statement is False.
Since this statement has an unresolved pronoun ('This'), you would do pronoun substitution again.
- ''This statement is False' statement is False' statement is False.
Since this statement has an unresolved pronoun ('This'), you would do pronoun substitution once more.
- '''This statement is False' statement is False' statement is False' statement is False'
And you will keep doing pronoun substitutions forever since statements with unresolved pronouns cannot have a True/False property.
I find this teenage-girl-at-a-rock-concert-feigned-fascination with self-referential 'paradoxes' silly.

Charity in Hinduism falls under 3 modes, as with pretty much everything else in Hinduism - Tamas, Rajas & Sattva
Tamas - given at wrong place/time, to wrong (unworthy) person, without respect/decency, with contempt.
Rajas - given with reluctance, expecting return (either from recipient, or praise)
Sattva - given at right time/place, to right (worthy) person, with humility, without expectation of return.
Note that while others religions mainly dwell on not expecting return and anonymity, Hinduism stresses not expecting return but does not stress anonymity as much as it stresses finding the right patra (bowl) i.e. right recipient.
Donating $100 to a poor person, who also happens to be wicked, and/or will definitely spend it on vices, is actually a bad donation, because it causes more harm to the recipient and society, than good.
Also, timing - a litre of blood donated to a save a life in urgent time, is worth more than a litre of blood spilled in war to gain territory.
Also, place - a donation done in holy land or temple is worth more than a donation from a local philanthropy club.
Also, the reward for donation is gaining goodwill in the heart of Bhagavan (God). And He dishes out goodwill proportional to the 'effort' rather than 'amount' - a $100 wage earner donating $10 is judged the same as $100 million donated by a billionaire.
Source : Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, verses 20,21,22
