I don't get it. The blog post is about failing multiple Google interviews, then complaining that the process is good enough for you, then saying Google isn't your "dream job" anymore?
How is this different than the old, "I didn't want to go to your stupid birthday party anyway!"??
Maybe I missed something in the post but I was hoping to read about someone who had actually worked at Google before criticizing it..

I somewhat agree - but given that no meaningful piece of software has ever shipped without bugs being punted (and bugs that weren't even known about), when is there really time to add an easter egg?

Just gotta say this is a strange outcome of our technological developments.. I mean think of the energy that was spent making this work - it could've been done doing something.. I dunno fucking useful?!
It's almost as bad as watching two "grown-ups" play Street Fighter lol.

The nice thing about just being an employee is you get a lot more free time to enjoy life. Yes, there is life outside of software for some of us!
Also, way less risk.
I work for big companies, and the chance of getting laid off is about 0%, while the chance of an annual raise and performance bonus is 100%.
Not saying it's the best way to go, but it works for me.

Think of something you want to write in that language; this is the only thing that really works for me.
Tutorials and canned examples are ok, but if it's not something I actually want then I'm not really learning much.
And if you can't do anything useful in the language you want to learn, then ask yourself why you want to learn it?
Or take something relatively simple, and code it in whatever language. I did this a while back, and wrote a port scanner in c, java, perl, and python.

Not sure I'd go so far to call it bs.. ballpark figures are better than nothing!
At least the listed frame weights are somewhat less subjective than complete bike weights - and there are a bunch of people that definitely care about that kind of "minutiae".

> cut the amount of discussion on HN by a large amount. Maybe even by 90%.
Indeed, this seems to be the point.. which is kind of ridiculous.
What problem is this solving again? If it's bickering sub-threads, just add UI to collapse threads.

Thanks - yeah I will certainly need to shift my thinking away from c#-style (read: Visual Studio) development.
As for pdb, I guess I've been spoiled by Visual Studio's debugging - hover to see values, step through source code, etc.
Is there no Python debugging/IDE equivalent to Visual Studio's hover/etc?

Thanks!
By "indentation" I meant using that for conditional blocks, instead of the C-style bracketing that I'm used to.
I found that list of IDEs, but basically what I'm asking is what are people's favorites from that list?
