I have an active project where parts of it still uses on the back-end WebObjects, an ORM framework originally from NeXT and later apple. Over the years parts of it are being rewritten (WebObjects is not threadsafe) but it just keeps running and running processing millions of transactions per week.

I think the cows are very stressed here in Switzerland. I make cheese every now and then - ricotta and paneer. It's simple. I buy the milk from a "milch-Automat" - farms around here (Zurich) have machines where you can buy a liter of raw milk from the farm for cheap. So, the milk I'm using is direct from the cows.
I made paneer a week ago. Normally I can cut it up and brown it and make the edges crispy. But for this batch I got far less cheese than normal and it was wet - I had to let the molded paneer dry out longer than normal. Then when I went to brown it the entire batch just melted into a gloopy mess - that just doesn't happen.
Reminded me of the omen.

Iran hit a uae ship today. For the ships that are transiting are shipping companies paying Iran to allow shipments? If it's in bitcoin then the payments would be visible if you know/suspect the wallets ot amounts.
Or are the attacks on ships more or less random?

The soup stone is missing. My grandpa was from Vilnius which was part of Poland when he left. They always had soup on the stove every day all day and one of the things in it was always a stone to hold something (herbs?) at the bottom. It was such a part of the family that they weren't sure who was going to inherit the stone - it went to the oldest son.

I had a coworker from the democratic republic of Congo who insisted that if he was back home he would do ok fighting because he played lots of first-person shooters. I mean he was 100% serious about this. We argued about it.
He got a commitment from our employer to pay his undergrad tuition. But he disappeared one day, probably went home to fight and die. I search for him every now and then but I think he's gone.
I think his naïveté is equal to this policy.

I spent the last three days (off and on) using Gemini to configure my edge router 4 with my iOS devices on a vpn and it's been awesome. In the past I'd do a google search and read a few sources of documentation, do another google search and read another set of documentation. Now, Gemini aggregates multiple pages together so all of the work of reading source docs from multiple locations is now n a single step.
Oh, I should mention though. There was no advertising at all. They didn't make any money off me. It was 100% Gemini which I recognize as not long-term feasible.

I got my motorcycle license so that I could split lanes when I lived in California. It's legal in the sense that there's no mention of it in the books. So you can split lanes as long as you're not being reckless. Some car drivers had a problem with it and when they saw you coming up behind them they'd move into your space to block you. Bizarre.

We love our induction stove top. The "burners" go from 1 to 9 but also have an L and P setting.
4 is the same as gas low. 7 is the same as gas high. 8 is wok hot. 9 is too hot. P is power - for heating up water. It's amazing.
It can melt your pan but it has a sensor to not let that happen. It does sometimes give the metal that blue color you get when you heat metal with a blow torch.
The sensor is also used for pan frying. It has presets for light to heavy frying and keeps the pan at the temp the whole time.

I gave up after a couple of paragraphs... somewhat related, when we were renters we came across at times landlords that wouldn't rent to Americans. They didn't hide - they'd just say they don't rent to Americans.
I think it's because we have different expectations - when you move out of a place here it has to be the same exact condition as when you moved in which means you have to pay to have it painted, get the carpets cleaned, have the oven, etc inspected and maintained... also, you have to bring your own ceiling light fixtures so you remove those too.
There's a whole industry of cleaning companies that handle you moving out.

Something I've wondered... if you publicly say that a domain is for sale and someone has a trademark for it would you automatically lose in arbitration?
Around 1998 I registered a domain. Sony registered a trademark with the same name a few years after that. Someone on a Gmail account asked if he could buy it - I later found out he worked for Sony. I told him no - it's for a game I've been working on. I went on a vacation for a month and when I got back there was a fedex package filled with documents from Sony saying I'm violating their trademark and they'll take the domain.
I got a lawyer and he told me that I shouldn't offer it for sale as that would show the arbitration board that I don't need the domain. But he also told me that in order to fight the trademark it would probably cost a couple of hundred thousand dollars. So I could keep the domain but not use it for commerce...
In the end I ended up selling it to Sony but through my lawyer - I never stated it was for sale. But this was early on for domains and I wonder what the process is like now.

I'm not sure if you get this in the news in the USA but trump and his administration are pretty much constantly mocked and made fun of in the press - at least here in Europe. It's just constant legitimate mockery about specific incidents - most recent I saw was the press trying to figure out if trump actually understands the meaning of the word "decapitate" as he used it in a nonsensical way a couple of days ago.
Oh, I bring this up because of the picture they used in this article.

I'm American but moved to Europe years ago where I am definitely happier. I like the superstitious idea that the American continent is cursed from the deaths of 55 million native Americans since the discovery of the western hemisphere. I mean, I do t believe it but it does make a good story.
