Excellent! I’m sure that Saudi Arabian prince (who the media and its followers have been citing ad nauseum for some strange reason as to why Twitter shouldn’t accept the offer) will be very happy now. Because, you know. A Saudi Arabian prince is who we should be listening to when it comes to American policies, companies, and institutions.

Many of the silliest progressive ideas are being / have been normalized thanks to Big Tech and the establishment doing one or more of three things:
1) actively censoring people who speak out against them
2) preventing discussions from happening in the first place (comments disabled, dislikes hidden)
3) actively promoting the ideal progressive version of the idea to cut down on dissent
Take the pronouns thing. Every other Instagram account of a female has her official pronouns (which you may only choose from a list of officially allowed ones so as to cut down on dissent via things like “your majesty / his highness”) set to she/her. I’m sorry but we all know you’re a woman. Why are you putting your pronouns up? The idea is a preposterous one; don’t even get anyone started on the they/them abomination.
And yet dissent and mockery of this abject stupidity is largely censored. As a result it’s bleeding out into the real world.
I hang in very progressive social circles. Trust me when I tell you, you do not want this reality. Their lives are defined by their progressive causes and perceived slights and micro aggressions. Every introduction “must” involve your pronouns and if you “forget” them they will innocently ask you of them. As a result people are bumbling pronouns all the time, I cannot tell you how many times even the pronoun experts start to say “she” or “he” in casual conversation referring to someone but then panic and stutter and say “they” because they can’t quite remember what pronoun this particular person wants to go by today or if they’re a they/them who despises people who feel like they should be able to speak freely without knowing they’re very, very special and are too special to go by a binary pronoun.
Mockery is the best defense against stupidity. Which is why it’s under such a big threat. And it’s why Elon is taking over Twitter.

It’s so strange. At first it was intriguing since I had never heard of it before, but now given how often it’s brought up, I suspect some sort of forced Streisand effect deal is at play from all the people who don’t like Elon or are using it as a speculative argument of how he’s ackshually not technically free speech because clearly he spent billions just to take that account down.

Why does everyone think Elon Musk wants zero moderation? He always talks about free speech, not zero moderation. There’s an important difference.

It wasn’t given scrutiny. It was silenced. And, turns out it wasn’t misinformation either.
Thank God with Musk’s new Twitter we won’t have to have this sort of discussion anymore anyway, people won’t be able to just shout Russian disinformation at anything that makes the left look bad and have Big Tech scramble to do their bidding to help influence elections.

Similarly, when someone wants to take the opposite stance of a well reasoned stance for reasons unrelated to the stance itself (feelings, etc.), I tend to want to take the stance of the original to counter the person taking the opposite stance. I'm going to start staying GIF (like JIF) again.

This desperate “it’s Russia’s fault!” angle being pushed by the establishment right now is not convincing anyone with more than two brain cells. We all saw and experienced the massive inflation and supply chain issues longggg before that war started and there’s mountains of data that shows that to be the case.

I would probably use Trump’s playbook during his administration as a guide since it resulted in low inflation, low gas prices, no supply chain issues, a Putin kept in check, etc. In contrast, the current President definitely appears to be finding leadership harder than he realized despite his 50 year career in politics.

Can someone fact check the “Putin price hike” angle or are all the debunkers on vacay this administration? I do recall months and months of extremely high inflation and gas prices $1.50/gal more than they were two years ago, prior to any “Russian interference” in our economy via the war in Ukraine. Is the media really going to let Biden get away with this? Because I don’t think anyone in the real world is really buying it.

> They have no authority or control over gas prices, supply chain issues, or autocrats invading other countries.
They may not have direct control... but nobody is arguing the President literally said "supply chain issues, start existing!" or failed to say "gas prices, you better not rise!" while waiving his finger.
Presidents absolutely have indirect control over all of those things though, and more.

> tweeting nonsense that could damage the company/brand
Oh, I think Twitter has done enough to itself to damage the company/brand as it is. Most people in the real world think the site is an absolute joke.
Musk can only bring good things to Twitter, and as a result, the world. The era of corporate censorship (in favor of their favorite side, of course) may finally be coming to an end!

> jesus christ is he immature
This seems to be the #1 complaint about him. Honestly, so what? Since when is Twitter serious business? To take it a step further... why does life have to always be serious business? There's plenty enough of that as it is.
I think it's telling that people are up in arms and furious that Elon Musk might... bring back a little free speech and equal moderation to Twitter? I mean the threat isn't that the left is going to be censored more, it's that the right will be censored less equivalent to how the left is currently "censored" there. And that's what people are scared of, evidently. Excellent ideas, apparently, require strict censorship and moderation to propagate.
One of the number one complaints about our last President was the same thing: "he's immature". So finally, we got a super mature President who's in office currently. Along with super high inflation, super high gas prices, supply chain issues, and a Putin who evidently thinks he can get away with anything now.
"Immature" isn't always a bad thing.

> Looking at his term through the lense of sympathy rather than history gives a distorted picture.
In light of comparisons of the current President to him, the current meme seems to be to consider Carter “an actually very good, misunderstood President” in the hopes of neutering the insult.

For me, I try to avoid politics in general since I’m (along with everyone else) so inundated with it on a daily basis. It’s so wonderful and refreshing to find places where it doesn’t exist and isn’t mentioned. No matter how much bad is going on in the world we all need to be able to mentally escape it. It’s just one of those vital things.
So when you go to download the newest version of one of your fav text editors and you’re faced with messages like “you guys support who I support in the war right?! You should because the other guy is crazy! I stand with this side, I’m literally changing the world!” and I just gotta sigh and roll my eyes. Sir this is an Arby’s.
