If you have a router you control, many routers allow you to take away internet access from a device while keeping it on your local network. Some (all?) Asus routers can do this from their UI.
This won’t help with devices that require 24x7 internet access, but it’s great for things you want to access the local network but don’t trust not to send info to a third party. (TVs, music amps with built in streaming, home surveillance systems [1], etc.)
Also handy for briefly turning on Internet access for software updates or one time activation.
[1] while making a surveillance system available online safely and with software you control isn’t hard, it’s not trivial. Turning Internet access off for your cameras without a plan will mean you can’t monitor your home or get alerts when away from your local network.

DNS query type AXFR allows for subdomain querying. There are security restrictions around who can do it on what DNS servers. Given the number of places online one can run a subdomain query, I suspect it's mostly a matter of paying the right fees to the right DNS provider.

For all other payment types, the unrounded price is used.
I wrote code for this a long time ago when cash was still a major form of payment in a country that got rid of sub 0.05 coins.
I continue to use traditional methods. Why? Because I, the person learning a new language, cannot validate the information the LLM presents to me. For me, the risk of learning bad ways (inefficient, not language appropriate, or insecure) of using the new language outweigh any benefit to using an LLM to learn.
I view it like learning a foreign language from a friend who is also not a native speaker and not a trained instructor. Maybe they'll be great and it will be fine. But I don't have any way of knowing.

They're not being dumped. Putting them on YT lets WB make passive money while maintaining control of their rights with little effort on their part. If WB makes a better deal down the road, they can hide or delete the movies from YT.
This also makes some of the movies more valuable by revealing hidden demand. WB will see their YT stats for their films and see where future investments or licensing deals may pay off. A streaming company is disincentivized to tell the movie owner how the film is doing.

> and reduce your cooling costs as much as possible with outside air when temperatures are cool
To add to this: University of Texas' supercomputers have used a variation of this for a while. I don't recall which cluster was the first, but they chilled and stored water at night when electricity was cheaper, then circulated the water during the day. This substantially cut cooling costs and increased cooling efficiency.

While most analog clocks' minute hands sweep from minute to minute, jumping minute clocks have the issue the article brings up.
Depending on when / where you went to school, you may have had analog jumping minute clocks. The ones we had at one school would "give away" when the minute would change because the minute hand would move slightly counterclockwise before changing to the next minute.[0]
Per reddit, some Swiss Railway clocks had jumping minutes, but I have not seen one in person. [1]
Another school I attended had sweep second and minute hands, but would hold the clock at 59 seconds until it matched the master clock. Depending on the particular clock and how well it was maintained, these could be 5 - 10 seconds off. Seems like nothing as an adult, but as a kid wanting to go home, it seemed like an eternity, especially on the last day of class for the semester.
[0] This video shows how clocks worked at my school: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpU_lG_TPP4
[1] https://www.reddit.com/r/clocks/comments/10714a1/hard_time_f...

The CDC does not "recommend" vaccinations over 45, mostly due to previous exposure. I suspect one can find doctors willing to do the vaccination for those over 45, though one may need to convince them.
Whether this is useful depends. HPV 16 and 18 are the "high risk" strains most associated with cancer. Depending on your sexual history, getting vaccinated at 45+ may be useful. Unfortunately, there's no reliable test for HPV 16 and 18 for those who have already had it.
https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/hpv/hcp/recommendations.htm...

I was diagnosed and successfully treated for HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer in 2023. My treatment results were almost perfect, from a clinical perspective. I had transoral robotic surgery to remove the tumors in my mouth / throat, neck dissection to remove cancerous and non-cancerous lymph nodes, and radiation to treat the area after cancer was found to have escaped the lymph nodes.
If I were 10-ish years younger, I wouldn't have gotten cancer. I was likely exposed to HPV in my early to mid 20s, where it hid in my tonsils for decades.
In the US, almost anyone under 45 can get vaccinated. Please do. As another comment points out, they protect against multiple strains. It's unlikely you've been exposed to all of them.
While HPV+ head and neck cancers are more easily and more successfully treated than HPV- ones, I do not recommend getting cancer.
From the outside, I look like a normal person of late middle age. The two incision scars I have look like neck folds -- literally no one, including medical personnel outside of the cancer world, notices them.
From the inside, tho:
* Can no longer taste sugar, salt, chocolate, and a host of other, smaller things. Most other things have less taste and pretty much nothing has a flavor after a few bites. For some, this eventually stops -- I'm unlucky. (Radiation destruction of taste buds)
* Significantly decreased saliva to the throat. Cannot eat without some liquid. The saliva that forms is thicker and sometimes causes problems swallowing. Some get this to the mouth and to a larger extreme -- I'm lucky. (Radiation)
* Dental trauma, including teeth extraction / root canal / deep fillings, may cause spontaneous bone tissue death in the jaw. (Radiation)
* Permanent sensation of partial numbness centered around my left ear and cheek. Touching that area produces a pins and needles sensation. (Neck dissection)
* No feeling in a stripe about 1.5" (4cm) wide where the neck dissection scars are. (Neck dissection)
* Changes in speech quality. These are not clinically significant but changed my voice from one people enjoyed listening to (asked to do voice over work, complemented, etc) to just another voice. (Surgery)
* Tinnitus increased significantly and hearing has worsened. I was not given chemo, the normal cause of hearing loss. (Unsure cause)
There's more, but those are some of the highlights. Get vaccinated, get your kids vaccinated, etc.
HPV- head and neck cancers in the US are dropping as people quit smoking. HPV+ are on the rise for now, but will drop as the generations with vaccinations get older.
I'm traveling today, but will look at this later today if anyone has a question to ask.
