Very much disagree and I am in California.
I have called this line in particular during a sever major depression episode.
I tried calling my fraternities mental wellness hotline first but it went unanswered which I thought was quite funny at the time.
The rep was able to talk me down through my spiraling thoughts. Told me that "no your therapist was not egging you on when he said well why don't you commit suicide what's holding you back". He was instead trying to figure out my reasons for living.
They do not automatically call the police and telling people they do is harmful. My anecdotal evidence has been a much better experience, and others I know who have called have said the same.
I'm not sure what would cause them to send the police but having a safe line to call when you have nothing else is important. Maybe the change that should happen here is having social workers or other mental health representatives respond, not getting rid of the phoneline.

Same I'll be switching off Cursor today to either claude code or kiro. Luckily my company lets us choose which agentic software we want to use. I won't touch anything Musk is related to, he is toxic and anything he touches turns toxic and supports him.

Incredibly sad to see and watch.
Do what you can to support marginalized folks out there. When I do any kind of political / charitable donation, my wife gets to make an equal one to any organization of her choice and often chooses the Trevor project which makes me incredibly proud of her.

Not a great read. Its a very generic article that doesn't actually give you any information. Its too high level for anyone that actually works in this field and for anyone not in this field they are better off with an introduction to the topics of status codes and http layer works.

Alright let me put on my evil corpo hat. Wait it was already on.
Headphones that inject ads is a great idea but we need to make that a better proposition. Lets say that these headphones have an AI integration which parses all sound and converts it to text, then we can run it through our AI to give helpful comments. We may even wait until no sound is playing to inject them (for now). We can add ads later once it becomes helpful. Imagine you are listening to a podcast / youtube video then you get a helpful voice give additional research and ideas. Like a friendly research agent on your shoulder.

I cancelled my subscription today, before I even noticed the news about this price increase. These subscriptions are a weight around every consumers neck and as the cost of every day goods increases they are the easiest to cut.
Most of my media consumption has moved to youtube or patreon. I feel much better about supporting smaller groups of folks still making media than Netflix and the fact that they put out most of their content onto youtube for non-paying patreon members means I can share with my friends and family.
Amazon prime video I keep around because I still have prime, but they are on a very thin ice. If I get one more package that is clearly a return or another product entirely then I'm cancelling prime.
Crunchy roll is also on thin ice because of the AI subtitles controversy and continual price increases with no improvement in the quality of the content being produced.

Doesn’t this lead to problems like the feature team pushing buggy code and having no accountability or responsibility to deal with it?
My preference is to treat the defects like feature work, size and plan. Yes you might not get all the feature work done but the team is accountable for everything they make

Enshittification never stopped we just stopped talking about it because it became normal. Quality does not matter anymore. I agree its depressing, seeing AI Slop being pushed and no one even putting the time or effort in to say this is bad and you should feel bad.

Their win condition isn't destroying Israel, its outlasting the American will for the war until a leadership change happens. They aren't the attackers in this war. They need to just defend until America and Israel give up because it is too costly at home.

This is so interesting. My work is having us do a AI hackathon where we have to attempt to do our daily job only using AI tooling. No writing any code yourself, no manual input besides to the agents. I guess I should prepare myself for the inevitable conclusion of this.

Yep watch the economic forums if you want to get an insight into how these people think. They will absolutely be excited about AI but be a B2B SaaS that sells by the seat. They will move against their own interests if it in the pursuit of the next quarter regardless of long-term though.

LLM generation is a force multiplier for bad actors. The noise generation is impressive and you can influence other actors just by having more content. The good actors have to prove things to be true and make sure they are louder, a tough scenario.

I mean liability can be defined, we are writing new laws for these things.
Cops that need to move autonomous are not liable for any damages.
I do think that theres needs to be better handling of emergency vehicles and autonomous vehicles. Someone needs to spend some serious time thinking through how to handle this better because this situation was not okay.
