I'm enjoying learning about these hard problems, but this line about credit made me chuckle:

Offering to take responsibility for the correctness of a proof written in Lean feels like volunteering to be the fall guy in case someone finds a flaw in basic arithmetic, no?

I think as I've gotten older, the fear of expressing myself has increasingly turned into a sense of duty to do it anyway. The more people feel pressured into silence, the more important it seems not to be.

Asylum-seekers, domestic abuse victims, sex trafficking victims, indentured servitude and modern slavery, etc. Access to guidance on government websites represents a way out of society's most dangerous situations for vulnerable people, and getting caught browsing the wrong help article can be risky. Automated intelligent surveillance isn't outside of the realms of the imagination, either, which is troubling

Perhaps if less spending went towards their private aviation interests LTT labs could review a piece of hardware that was released _this_ year, or maybe extend their narrow testing process to cover real-world use metrics like TTFT. Not to mention the lack of real value-perf comparison to CUDA

As someone who's self-taught, I find this argument tantalizingly validating, but I'm constantly reminded that universities offer more than just the material. Between peer networks and "alumni" connections or even just the ability to email a former professor or TA for advice, these opportunities just aren't really available independently. Skipping college might not limit what you can learn but it sure narrows the network and institutional support available to you.
