I don't think that will be very likely as you'd be surprise how little information you're given about users who make any purchases.
Currently, it's up to you to create hooks upon successful payment to ask for information (which is extremely weird to the users because they're under the impression that they paid you directly and already possess that information).
Every In-App-Purchase (or app purchase) is not linked between platforms. It sort of makes sense that any IAP you buy in iOS will not (automatically) make it over to Android, but it makes less sense between Android and Chrome (considering it's the same Google user).

Thanks! I thought about porting, but honestly this was a "big fish in a little pond" scenario. With fewer apps (and also fewer users) you don't have to do a lot to stand out. I'd have to weigh cost/benefits of doing an iOS port.

According to the link, in short, it says to notify your users (assuming you've been keeping track of them via a mailing list) and then posting an uninstall button.
As far as I can tell, there will be no way to programmatically transition users and their IAP outside of your chromeapp. Meaning, we will have to figure out a way to get users to register their purchases to a database.

The moment it was announced that Android Apps/Play store was coming to Chrome OS, I always wondered about the fate of Chrome Apps.
I built a Photobooth App called Photomatico[1] (for use in events/wedding/parties). While there is an endless supply of photo/camera apps in Android and iOS, there were only a few photo/camera apps on the Chrome Store, and even less that didn't rely on using Flash. I wrote Photomatico originally as a web app for one of my friend's wedding (super happy with the use of only HTML/CSS/Javascript).
It was a relatively small effort to package the code into a web app (because packaged web apps have the added functionality of running offline/disconnected, kind of like Cordova/PhoneGap) and adding to the fact that Google handled all the payments - so no need to do extra work and sign up for credit card processing/Stripe/Recurly/paypal, etc. So all you had to do was add a few lines of code, zip it up and people would pay you for it!
I think people value the simplicity of an "app" versus a website even though in my case the functionality is equivalent. From the last 3 years, I find that non-tech people (i.e. people who celebrate retirement parties, DIY party organizers, etc.) are pretty comfortable with the concept of packaged apps (icons, distinct install process) but are even more comfortable with the safety of an App store. As crowded as it is, users definitely were more comfortable with a store than navigating and bookmarking a website.
I have built other apps that use the bookmarking feature to launch separate self-contained windows and my own anecdotal observations show that this workflow is really hard for them to grasp. Even the "new" way in Chrome is being dismissed by users because it looks too much like an ad or popup.
A few years ago, I put my Photobooth app on the Chrome Store and slapped a price (currently:free for selfies, $40 for the "Events" edition). I learned a lot about pricing/offering (I was surprised when I discovered I had more people paying $40 for the Events Edition than $5), building an email list (incentivizing signups), etc.
Just the other day, I was reviewing my revenue figures, and for relatively low amounts of work/support it's currently bringing in around $150 CDN / month, with over 40 daily installs, a couple thousand pictures taken weekly.
As sad as it is to see the chrome store go all I can say (in 2018 when they will shut it down) is: "So Long! Thanks for all the fish!"
[1]https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobooth/lcimple...

I can see the usefullness of this tool but it's not clear how to use it. I installed it but nothing changed (i.e. there's no button in the toolbar). I tried restarting Chrome hoping to see some changes, nothing. I went to the extensions settings page but all I see are checkboxes for different see screenshot: http://imgur.com/rOBCMmj
It would be extremely helpful to have even a basic tutorial page/link pop up after installation (you can add this hook in the manifest.json).

Well said! I have a few apps on the store and completely agree. It's 2015! Why can't the platform email/notify me the moment a user leaves a feedback? I have to constantly login to the developer panel and check each app.
The stats don't make any sense and there's been a constant complaint in the forums about the difference between impressions and installations (don't forget if a user signs into multiple chrome devices/browsers those all count as separate installations).
In short, I agree with everything you've said. It's not enough just to have a place to list your app, having good store tools and user communication tools goes a long way to delivering a good product.

I noticed that Google has updated their privacy policy on using analytics https://developer.chrome.com/apps/analytics#privacy
It USED to read that you had to ask for opt-in permission BEFORE you began tracking (which is the current pattern my app follows, but how many other apps/extensions have I seen do this?.... 0).
In my app, upon install/launch it prompts the user with a popup asking if they would like to help the developer out by sending anonymous data. I made it opt-in (the user had to explicitly check the box). Out of a daily 4500 Active Users, I only have 4 people who opted in (it's less than 0.1% for those who don't want to do the math).
With the old policy of requiring user's permission to opt-in, it makes it really difficult for any developer (who follows the rules) to get any valid feedback. I've posted on the Google Group and Stack Overflow and the question is basically ignored because it's an open secret that most people simply treat it like any website analytics as in they embed the code to track and move on.
I currently follow the Firefox pattern/language choice:
[ ] Share performance, usage, hardware and customization data anonymously with the developer to help make ___ better.
<<Learn More About Data Collected>>
TLDR; You'll get 0.1% compliance if you make data collection opt-in and you're upfront about data collection... it sucks because it makes the whole "Collect/Analyze Data" part of Development very difficult.

I can't agree with this enough. I built software/hardware for a computer accessibility company. We helped people with disabilities (i.e. motor, cognitive, etc.) use computers and be productive. Clients/Schools/Therapists would pay for a license and then expect/demand continual support forever and ever and the company I worked for didn't factor in the support.
I love the work, I love the impact, and I would absolutely love to go back in and help, but until there's a better (or even sustainable) pricing model I can't go back because it's unfair. I'm not even saying it's unfair for the developer, I'm saying it's unfair for the end-user because they have this expectation of what they're getting for their money and when they don't get it, they'll feel cheated.
For example, we had clients who were upset when we could not support OS 9 systems (this was in 2011) - this would be the equivalent to expecting support for Windows 95. It was unrealistic, but our clients had been using the solution reliably for that many years and it literally became a way of life - upgrading could mean re-training a way of life.
In the App-based economy it's simply expected that when someone pays $0.99 that the app will work on their phone for as long as they keep that phone. I'm amazed by the companies/developers who are able to make a <$5 "work".

Hey, I created this Google Chrome Web App initially for a friend's wedding. They wanted photobooth and I built an extremely portable version using only a laptop (with Google Chrome installed).
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/easy-webcam-photobooth/ppjpnkhplklbdacliidkmlfmaklpgoko
It basically allowed the couple to set an overlay of their choosing by modifying a simple PNG file and then it also can email the guests a copy of the picture. During the whole process, I was happy to hear how their guests came back to the photobooth with their smartphones saying "I got the photo!"
Everything was built using only HTML5 and the APIs available for Chrome Web App (no jquery was used or harmed during the development).
Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks for sharing.
While I'm not a game developer, I have been trying to get our team members to focus not just on building the product/app but also on thinking about developing a user acquisition process for each app. This may sometimes involve PR and talking to the media and app review sites, but my experience (which matches your thoughts) media exposure doesn't always result in an actual boost of registrations/downloads/revenue. So it's not just a goal of "get more customers" but making it more specific, e.g. "get more people to share my game/app" or "increase exposure to a specific target interest group", etc.
Thanks again for sharing. Best of luck with your future projects!

Sorry to hear about your app failing. However, a link to the app on iTunes in your post might help a bit :)
I would love to hear/read what your thoughts on your user acquisition strategy. Did you get it reviewed by sites? Was there anything built in to share the game (not multi-playing features, but a way to get others/friends to play)?
