I feel that the web via browser is in danger. Vast majority of people can be convinced to switch to walled garden apps just like vast majority are fine with tablets, phones aka non open locked down computers. I am a Firefox/ublock user, and prefer browser to mobile apps, however I see the writing on the wall

I do have to still remind codex to fetch large amounts of db records in batches otherwise it will always make a first false step of a naive select all style approach. Context wise naive can be ok for small datasets though so codex didn't know the naive approach was not viable. Context management the new code plumbing these days

they put a bunch of their stuff in shadow dom. A lot of the decisions of course are not based on usability but monetization incentives. If the current decision makers could, they would have made reddit a walled garden like facebook but the transition is a little awkward seeing as it used to be a free and open site. looks like they are close to cutting the cord on that openness.

many 'human' generated comments on reddit are very toxic. characteristic of a sort of oneupmanship of shrill accusation and doomer-ism that gets incentivized with karma. Even when the general sentiment is justified I find it unhelpful and harmful for mental health. Yet I still sometimes drift over there. It can be addictive to scroll through.

First there is a patch of greenery. People naturally drawn to spend time there. Then a generous benefactor comes along and builds a paved road. Hey you don't have to use those footpaths anymore! You can ride your bike along this! Thank you!
Then this wonderful benefactor starts adding more things.. fencing.. signage, guardrails. Then one day the benefactor says to everyone I've made all this for you. And yet some of you still don't use this place in the intended way. I will now put up a security perimeter. You must show your papers to enter, walk along the narrow lanes we've set up and obey the signage and pay a toll to justify all I've done. Some of you are so ungrateful
I wonder if we can find a new patch of greenery

I feel like the web is under attack. They want chatgpt in desktop app so they can start moving people away from chatgpt via web. Web being suspectible to automation is driving everything into locked down apps. The very toxic reddit.com a prime example of this -- forbidding mobile web access behind a timed wall.
