i wonder if this is how engineers felt when the first electronic calculators came out and engineers stopped doing math by hand.
did we feel uneasy that a new generation of builders didn't have to solve equations by hand because a calculator could do them?
i'm not sure it's the same analogy but in some ways it holds.

>I love (Neo)Vim. Like I wrote earlier, it's been my primary editor for the past 15 years. What I don't love is all the configuration that goes into it before I can use it to start writing code.
this resonates with me. i've spent so much time configuring neovim in the terminal (kitty) and i've never had everything work 100% of the time. simple things just like seeing an entire typescript error are challenging to get working. those errors just continue on one line outside of the screen.
with LLM's the tradeoff tipped in the favor of cursor with the neovim extension.
> 2. It just works
so i switched to cursor last week from neovim in the terminal and this is how i feel. but, i'm not going to invest more time to check out Zed now that i just got cursor set up the way i like it.
but it's great to see all the progress in IDE's lately.

i think this type of interaction is the future in lots of areas. i can imagine we replace API's completely with a single endpoint where you hit it up with a description of what you want back. like, hit up 'news.ycombinator.com/api' with "give me all the highest rated submissions over the past week about LLMs". a server side LLM translates that to SQL, executes the query, returns the results.
this approach is broadly applicable to lots of domains just like FFMpeg. very very cool to see things moving in this direction.

I don't disagree - write your own components in most cases.
Your original comment stated, as fact, "you'll get yourself or your employer sued, and/or your work pulled off the internet against your will."
You're right that suits do happen, and while there is a grain of truth in what you said, stating it the way you did is just too bold in my opinion. I highly doubt the individual developer would be sued. How would a company seeking damages know who made the git commit so they could target the developer?
The clarification in your reply about copying being willful, profitable and profit-damaging is where things start to make sense. And if you had said something along the lines of that, I wouldn't have replied and would have found myself in agreement.

Two absurd claims:
1. Getting sued
2. Getting your work pulled off the internet
You say that you or your employer would be sued if you did this. Going through a legal battle over some copied HTML, CSS & JavaScript is expensive, distracting and time consuming. You'd first get a cease and desist letter. Who has the time or energy to sue over this?
Getting your work pulled off the internet against your will. How would that happen? Have you heard of the pirate bay? There's no off-switch because you used someones react component.
You might not like this tool or feel it facilitates behavior you consider unethical, and I get that, but these claims you made are absurd.

i use neovim too and i prefer it over VSCode. the only major drawback is debugging and multi-file find/replace, so i do occasionally reach for VSCode.
as the author mentioned, LunarVim is a great project worth checking out. i'm using it now and recommend it.
