Markdown is for us humans. HTML is for machines.

Per keyboard stroke, you write much more content with MD than HTML.

Even without a specific browser/reader Markdown is relatively non-intrusive to read. You cant read HTML without an extra tool/effort to discard tags.

And you can parse MD with regular expressions, or can you? ;). (tip hat to infamous Stackoverflow discussion)

males competing against males are also at risk by taking a ball to the head :).

I think male female trans etc . can compete if analysed by sports branch basis. Male x female in contact sports like karate boxing taekwondo is not fair. However i think the difference is negligible in shooting, archerty, curling etc.

it is an additional burden to switch to shell vi mode, it is not the standard. Maybe you can put it in all of yout bashrc files but you will probably hear some swearing from the people logging to your machines :).

I am not a defender of Word (2024) but it starts in 1-2 seconds in my laptop.

Actually the speed is a problem when you have hundreds of pages with track changes and comments.

Maybe you should check Wordperfect or WordStar ;)

I can imagine Honda executives thinking that they can wait out the awkward transition period and, when motors and batteries are fully sorted, simply swap out the fossil fuel bits. How hard could it be?

The article loses its credibility once it imagines a multi-billion, multi-country company executives thinking this way :).

I dont know what the deal is with these editors that makes them on HN front page so frequently. In my opinion they are good text editors (used emacs for 4 years, and switched to vim nearly 10 years ago) but for coding I see them as a joke apart from some edge cases(clojure, lisp...). They are hard to setup as code editors, lots of customizations are needed and in my opinion it does not pay off.
