Maybe balance that with also trying not to destroy things for future generations, or even just future decades, and appreciate the farsighted choices that were made in the past that we all benefit from currently, such as the global eradication of smallpox, national parks, etc.

Perhaps what you're getting at is that being a good writer is not all it takes to make a good [art/story/work...], but I'm not unconvinced that reading is the key for the writing part.

This is one of the better written things I have read online in a long time. The quality of the prose almost makes the subject irrelevant.

"Consistent sensibility" is a tasty little phrase.

I think taste is developed from a combination of sensual attunement (clarity of perception and focus) and experience (exposure to relevant, high quality 'stuff'), but the catalyst is joy, or at least some kind of pleasure.

I use vim a lot but not on the shell

meta-bbbd (not as elegant, I admit)

ctrl-ak (this is even quicker than vim, especially if capslock is mapped to ctrl)

the control-based emacs movements work system-wide on macos btw. I am using ctrl-p and ctrl-n to go up and down lines, ctrl-a and ctrl-e to go to beginning and end of lines while writing this comment in by browser (which has vimium extension)

Sometimes I wish vim just had full emacs bindings while in insert mode. But I don't like to mess with defaults too much.

I keep thinking I should give vim readline a try though, so maybe today. Thanks for the comment.
