Sometimes I think joining a cult wouldn’t be too bad right about now. Hear me out: a bunch of people pool money to buy a massive amount of land somewhere and then building everything they need by hand: homes, farms, etc. and everyone has a strong sense of community from daily interaction and shared purpose, with regular rituals to keep a sense of stability. If we must work by manual labor, it is more satisfying to work to benefit those around you than for increasingly worthless dollars. No smartphones or thinking machines allowed.

Can an AI leader sieze your assets, kill you, and leave you unable to do anything about it, legally or physically? The government can.

Without a monopoly on violence they are not as powerful as you think they are.

This has always been the dream, code flowing constantly like a river, like green rain. Imagine a world where you never use the same piece of software twice, because every day it changes.

This is how we solve cybersecurity, by making code into constant shifting sand, so a vulnerability never truly lives long enough to be exploited at scale. Sure, a hacker may occasionally pick out a vulnerability like a bear picks salmon out of a river, but it makes larger scale cyberattacks impractical. The code is a firehose, constantly in flux.

Really Earth is only slightly habitable. The atmosphere is thin, there’s not a lot of fresh water. Temperatures fluctuate wildly. There’s probably better planets. Earth is maybe only good for marine creatures.

I think this is a bit fatalist.

All 24 of those jobs the author was rejected from likely went to 24 other people who just got hired. I doubt they'd be saying the tech market is cooked. It's more competitive than ever, but that's not the same as cooked.

Looking over the author's achievements, they are great but it's not clear for instance how those kind of things would help at our company, and I'm sure other companies would think the same. We don't care about Ruby or even Javascript... AI has made experience with programming languages more as a footnote rather than a core feature of a resume.

I hope the author will rebrand themselves for the AI era rather than just leave the tech industry entirely. Times are changing, we need good people.

What’s the perspective? Because it’s seems like it’s always some variation of “it could be worse”. Like yea there’s probably a lower circle of hell you could be burning in but you’re still in hell with no way out.

I think AI is an anti-tool.

The AI uses you to get things done. In some workplaces, they are experimenting with having agents evaluate the effectiveness of their users. If the user is not a sharp tool, it recommends to management that you be discarded and replaced by someone better and more efficient at steering the AI.

You are the tool.

What is the way forward? When people are staring down the barrel of being completely broke, in debt, facing homelessness, malnutrition, deteriorating quality of life until they ultimately die, what is going to emerge except some black swan of event of pure luck that gets you back to a bearable life? Just telling people it gets better doesn’t help, you must help them.

At work, all thinking has basically become discouraged.

If you are not using AI agents for everything, you're doing something wrong, and wasting company time. It has been emphasized that no one should be writing code by hand and if you think an AI has implemented something wrong you need solid reasoning to show why or else people just label you as some anti-AI troublemaker, who just becomes an obstacle standing in the way of things getting done.

If your human generated opinion is in any way wrong or simply not a true homerun then you get snubbed in future reviews, people stop listening to you.
