I really miss a mistake which I see a lot: a simple frontend (the architecture component) talking to backend (also an architecture component). I had to put extra effort all the time to explain the "no, people, a static web server is not sending anything to anywhere, it just serves static files".

The problem is not the risk itself but the inability to resolve the issue. This way, it's not just an "inconvenience" but sometimes a lifes work lost.

Drop the pieces on the board to occupy empty space, complete a row/column/3x3 square (highlighted) to make 'em disappear.

Try "zen mode" for more relaxed experiecnce or "tetris mode" if you want to deal with rotation!

No competition, just try to beat yourself every time.

Show HN: Far Manager theme and palette configurator

Some of you may use or remember FAR (File-and-ARchive) Manager. I have no doubt it is the most productive file manager ever made. :) But I found that the theme configurator inside FAR is a bit cumbersome, so I made a web-based alternative for theming and I also extended with palette configuration (useful if you combine FAR with ConEmu - but you can configure the standard windows command line palette by hand).

You can load and save themes and palettes, browse from existing ones or adjust colors in the loaded one.

It supports the basic 16 color, ANSI 256 or even RGB.

I'm planning to add file highlight adjustment and FarColorer (syntax highlighter in editor) configuration as well later.

Hey Renas! This piece looks pretty detailed, although the marketing shades a darker light to everything.

The payment notifications from the past (3 months old pops up as well) is just an annoying dark pattern. You spent 3 months at spotify as an intern in 2023 (according to linkedin), using that this emphasized is at least deceiving. At this point, I started to doubt in Alexander Bylund's existence (the one you display as a testimonial), one AI detection tool gave me back 92% likelyhood that it is a generated profile picture. Of course that could be a false positive, and not everyone should have a linkedin account as well, nor has he.

At start, at least the 4 corner is in the right place: they have a black dot in the center of their square. Goal is to have all squares with a black dot in the center.

I experienced a strange thing while tried inspecting the source code: regardless of what file I opened, I always got back the contents of the index.html. See the screenshot here: http://deejayy.hu/share/paste-20240611-214248.png

After refreshing, it properly displayed the JS code for the SW.

There were multiple sources I used, first started with dosbox, checked all codepages' ascii chart, made a screenshot, went thru all characters. Then I found int10h, crosschecked a few to not miss anything. Some glyphs are result of just the combination of letters and mods (accented characters mostly).

Then I found a pixel font which has about 40k glyphs as I remember, so I checked which can be derived from it in the style of the original VGA font.

Show HN: Classic Nokia 3310 Dotmatrix Font based on original firmwares

I'm working on a sideproject and while planning, it forked another sideproject to make the main one authentic enough (it is related to classic cellphones), so I started to make this font.

I found one which is not dotmatrix and another one which is not free, so I built this from scratch, hunted down original Nokia firmwares, extracted the font bitmaps to look as original as possible and also added some extras based on existing glyphs. It was a fun ride.
